Year-End Assessment Time

Today is December 1, 2019. Where are you...mentally, emotionally, physically? December is a good month to take a moment to breathe and think about where you are and where you want to go.

With the Winter 5% Weight Loss Challenge right around the corner, this is a good time to become more aware of those thoughts and feelings we tend to bury when or if they are uncomfortable. They are the messages we tell ourselves about our self and they are often negative. When you consider just how many thoughts a person has each day, (experts estimate that the mind thinks between 60,000 – 80,000 thoughts a day. That’s an average of 2500 – 3,300 thoughts per hour), would you be surprised to learn that 80% of them are negative? It’s time to decrease that percentage!

It is possible to turn those negative thoughts around. It doesn’t take long, but it does take daily practice. Each time you become aware of a negative thought, just ask yourself “Is this thought useful? Is this a thought that can be considered hurtful?” It’s a great exercise in mindfulness.

Use the chart I’ve posted below as a way to keep track of your progress in December and going forward. It’s a very simple method and one you need only look at one month at a time. If you’re particularly ambitious, keep a daily record. This is not a chart you need to show anyone but yourself, because afterall, mindfulness is all about you!

Use the upcoming Winter Challenge to chart a new course to your healthy destination. And remember to enjoy the journey! You have but one life to live, and only one body in which to live your life.
