Funny, but not a joke

Good morning,
It's another sunny day here in Bernville,Pa. Yesterday I worked but it was like Spring. I think it got up to 60.
Last Saturday a truck knock out our power lines at 5 PM and I immediately called the power company and reported it. Then took a long walk down our driveway/road which is about a 1/4 mile and saw one pole was cracked at top and lines were laying down on the road to the old mill.
When the light company guy got there he found out he needed the big trucks and he said the line on the road was cable not lights so I went back and called the cable company and "tried" to first get a real person to talk to, then I talked to 3 different people , 3 different times because they kept saying that they would send a teck to the house on Monday the earliest.
I kept trying to tell them it wasn't at my house and that it was a hazard because the pole was broke and the lines were on the road and bla,bla,bla but......I am sure you know how it goes.

I was awakened at 3 am to 4 trucks from the light company working ongetting the electric restored, apparently when the pole was broken out at the road it had pulled lines away from the pole half way down the drive. They had to go down by the creek to re string a lineor something. Power came back on shortly. Hats are off to the electric company.

Cable, that's another story. I received a text telling me that my appointment is for Monday. So, I called again (This was all on Monday) and explained it again (including the pole story) to her and saying,it is not at my house etc., etc. I also told her that I am cancelling my cable which she said that they were having technical problems and can't do that now AND they can't get in touch with the guy who is on his way to my house,(I guess no cell phone?) but I said I was taking my equipment back to their store and hopefully they can do it from there. She said maybe they could. emoticon emoticon
When the poor cable guy got here finally late Monday, I took a walk with him, explaining all I had tried to do, pointed to the top of the broken pole and he said,"Oh,WOW, that's bad. I have to get the bucket trucks here. Which eventually they did but then they left without fixing it until late yesterday. (Tuesday)

I went earlier in the morning on Monday to our library and got a "hot spot" from them and it worked great so I will be renting it from them for $50 less a month and getting everything (except cable tv) and that is the "Happy Ending" to a long crazy weekend.

    I am spoiled about having all our utilities, lights go out light candles. In the summer no ac is a problem when a snake shorts out the transmission station. No tv or music. Battery back-up allows internet.
    Then there are the countries where electrity is a rare delicacy, boil orders are unnecessary because there isn't running water and the cell phone service can be spotty. We are blessed and hope it continues.

    I had a situation. I had to cancel my dad's cable because he had died. When I called the cable company they told me I could not cancel because I wasn't listed as a contact. So they told me that no matter where he was they could install. I gave her the address and told and she would have to get tech to check in cemetery office to get ok to put cable into his coffin. Then she finally consented to let me cancel.

    Golly you were patient. I think it is a game cable employees play when they are bored. I once called the cable company because we were getting more service than we were being charged for. I spoke to 3 different people. The last person accused me of stealing cable. Ummm if I were stealing cable, would I be the one calling you? LOL

    We now have an HD antenna and love it.

    Wow, that sounds about like our cable company! We get our TV from Dish Network, so the only service from the cable company is Internet. There's a new wireless Internet company in town that is supposed to be bringing service to our city. Once that happens, bye-bye cable! I'm sorry you had to go through all that. Sheesh!

    I had a similar incident here in Montana. Had a snowstorm that pulled the lines off my house and across my backyard and was laying in the alley. They couldn't get here for 8 days. I lifted it up and put it across the garage roof and CUT the lines. It was just not safe to leave them laying on the ground and the power company wouldn't touch them.

    Sorry for your 'STRESS' ...
    I do hate when I have no alternative than to reach out to any "Service" via phone or internet..
    and way too often even the live in-person isn't much better.
    Once Upon a Time... businesses wanted the customers to be happy and stick with them.
    Now too many do not really give a ......care.
    Sounds like you have found a remedy... that meets you needs.

    oxymoron, noun, a figure of speech in which apparently contradictory terms appear in conjunction (one of the simpler definitions found in my 'Google' search).

    Oh my, it certainly is no joke and not even funny. My son does the phone calls for my cable and goes through the same rigmarole, getting umpteen different people before even one can understand what he's telling them. Not to mention the fact that my son can barely understand THEM on the phone!! Gets worse all the time. Glad all is well for you now!!
