Wherever You Go, There You Are

Thursday, August 22, 2019

It's been months. I used to yell at my sister for not staying in touch with me. I could tell if she was having a rough time, because she didn't want to have to tell me about it. Guess what I've been doing, the same exact thing. So I called her this morning! And, I'm writing here.

It has been a tough summer for me. I always think that summers are going to be care-free, fun, time at the beach things, and then life gets in the way. I was running a business. People needed time off for family emergencies. I was taking a class that took up as much of my time as I could give to it. I had my own medical issues to contend with as well as those of my family. I blinked, and the summer was over!

So here I am coming up for air. When I take stock of where I am now, much of me says that I've back-slid and lost a lot of ground this summer. If I step on a scale, I'm guessing I would find that to be true, but that isn't how I choose to judge my life.

Life is what happens while we are busy making other plans, remember?

emoticon I finished my second class of the year, a classical painting class.
emoticon Part of that class was painting a self-portrait. That was challenging. When I could get out of my own head, it was fun. It turned out to be how I see myself. I see such a sense of peace in my face I'm thrilled to have it on the wall.

emoticon I took a leap of faith, and tried a medication that would have cured a chronic cough I've had for years. I found out that being on that drug made my life unlivable for someone as busy as I am. I basically lost a month and a half of creativity and energy.

I could go on and on about what I didn't get accomplished this summer. I would do a great job of feeling bad, and that won't get me anywhere. It is time to take stock and figure out where I want to go from here. Life isn't linear. As much as we all want it to be, it isn't. What it is, is a juggling act, and sometimes you drop a ball.

"Progress has not followed a straight ascending line, but a spiral with rhythms of progress and retrogression, of evolution and dissolution."
    -Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

We mostly think success follows a logical order of steps and in due time, we'll get the prize, bit by bit or inch by inch, which works but we must also accept chaos that prevents us from reaching our milestones in the nice tidy order we want BECAUSE...it's two steps forward and one step back most times.

You said you were "coming up for air" after a "tough summer" yet LOOK at your self-portrait (which was a challenge and also out of your normal routine) and you're absolutely right about the "sense of peace" in your face. It is THE PERFECT CALM in spite of the storm my Scorpio Sister!!

Here's our Horoscope: Shining light into the dark corners of the world is uplifting. The more you do it, the more hopeful you become. You have many exciting choices. Pick the path that fills you with excitement. Friends could be surprised by your decision. Some won't understand your desire to try something totally new. You'll want to expand your horizons, not go over the same old ground.

Let's keep our options *open* to any spontaneous opportunities that are SURE to occur along our way.

In spite of all the balls you had to juggle, you accomplished a lot IMO. You have reason to be proud of what you did, especially concerning your art class and your self-portrait.

As you so aptly pointed out, life sometimes hands us unexpected challenges that must be dealt with and that change our focus.

Thanks! This was done using a limited Zorn palette, Ivory Black, Titanium White, Yellow Ocre, and Cad Red. It is amazing how many colors you can create with just that!
