Well, I think I may have figured it out.

Sunday, July 12, 2020

Ohhh, two blogs in one day!

From nih.gov……...

“It has long been known that B vitamins at doses below their toxicity threshold STRONGLY promote body fat gain.”

“a nationwide increase in the consumption of many vitamins, especially FAT SYNTHESIS-PROMOTING B vitamins, including B1 (thiamin), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin) and B6, “

my vitamins---I was taking 1 of these a day, on Dr’s advise I started taking 2 of them a day.

The label amount is for 2 pills. I have not lost since I upped to two per day. I am (as of tomorrow – I have unfortunately already taken the second one today) going back to 1. And as soon as I can find a good one I am just going to change vitamins. (I have to find ones without folic acid as I lack the gene to metabolize folic acid)

wish me luck! stay tuned for my next "gastric sleeve chapter"

edit to add = I am actually not going to take anymore at all. My best friend who used to be my nurse said no more! I have ordered a multi with normal amounts

2nd edit to add = Talked with doctor this morning 7-13-2020, said to stop the high potency vitamins as they were most likely causing issues. that sleeve does not need this type vitamins, only bypass and duodenal switch. as they are malabsorptive. Said these vitamins would likely cause serious issues with liver

Wow - what an adventure you are on. You will become a bariatric nutritional counselor before you're done. Keep at it and I know you will reach your goal. (I didn't want to say good luck since I know this is not a luck thing - it's a work thing! but I hope any extra luck lying about comes to live at your house)

I take a senior multi-vitamin, so it covers my needs with my diet. I knew about that weight loss thing. It pays to read and research!

Hey NOTALOSER1! Thank you so much for the article. I am not familiar with that website but I did go read it. It does contradict the government website though. I checked with my doctor and they said the government website is correct, that the B vitamins of B-6, thiamine, riboflavin, and niacin can actually lead to weight retention, even though some are water soluble. it is like the old saying

...Too much of a good thing....

Saw this..... not sure it's relevant but thought I'd share.

In most cases, taking a B vitamin will not lead to weight gain. However, people who are deficient in vitamin B12 might notice the scale creep upwards once they start supplementing. That's because loss of appetite is a symptom of vitamin B12 deficiency.

Hope this helps! While I am waiting for surgery, I do take a daily B vitamin as recommended by my Dr. I'll need to do more research on the subject.

I'll tell you something two wise physician friends told me years ago-"unless doctors take it upon themselves to take more nutrition classes AFTER basic college, they do not know that much about nutrition."
When I was in nursing school, I had to take a nutrition class at the university and there were pre-med students in there with us. If that's the only class they are required to take, well....

We really have to look into everything we take by reading trusted articles and talking to our doctors. There is so much out there that can be purchased over-the-counter. We definitely have to shop smart.

WTG! Do you have your doctor's email or one for the medical clinic to forward a message to your doctor's attention. An expert opinion combined with an approach targeted for your genetic composition would be helpful to avoid confusion and frustration.

WTG! You're doing great! Glad you found a possible reason. Once you switch back to 1 for a bit you should know if that is the cause or not. Have a great night!
