Week 469 ... MB 253 ...

Saturday, February 06, 2021

Morning Sparkies,

Seven years ago we had a fire in our area and we packed up Phoenix and DD and left. DS was at work and had to stay a week at a coworkers house. We had to stay in car for three days at the road block,Phoenix got badly dehydrated in the car in 38 deg C and we took him to the vet where they kept him overnight and put him on a drip. We stayed for a few days in a motel then were given the OK to go home.

We made the decision then if it happened again we would stay and fight.

Monday lunch time I saw the smoke from then on it was all hands on deck DS was at work but the roads were still open, by that night they were closed. We packed up belongings in the car and set to work making the house and yard as ready as we could to fight.

As the week went along DD and brother in law kept in touch, I told them we were staying as Hubby and son were going to stay and fight. They both asked "what do you think?", I replied "I am trusting their judgment".

I know that in high risk times my emotions can race, I did not listen to them this time. I supplied drinks and meals and listened and encouraged and was PRESENT for each discussion ... I took my shift to stay up and watch at night ...

The huge planes that went all day dropping retardant and the firemen who stopped by to check on us ... three or four of our fifteen neighbours took their horses out and came back to fight also .... Beauty was on my mind too we were able to feed her and on the worst day she went and sat in the lake bed ... though it was dry ... must have been what she learned to do in her other paddock :)

On Wednesday we got a text saying the food we had ordered could not be delivered please make other arrangements. We didn't reply and then about an hour later got a "You are next in line" sms... amazing we needed that food :) the driver said the police at the closed roads did not want to let him in...

Then on Thursday the Rubbish truck showed up to empty our bins :) no one had theirs out so I yelled to Hubby who ran the bin down the road and across the street to be there when the truck came back and we got our bin emptied... amazing :)

We also met the new neighbours so over all it was a good decision.

Hubby said if the flames come over the hill we are leaving and the police would have let us out but not back in again.

I praise God for all these wonderful things that happened over this week.

Today there are light showers and clouds and slight winds.... we all breathe a sigh of relief.:)

Thanks so much for all the messages and goodies what a great place SP is ...

Hoping the fires have been put out now and next week will be a little quieter :).

DS is able to get out to go to work tomorow so we hope there are no road closures again :)

Have a great week

On Saturday when the rains came it was so joyous :)

Quite the exciting week you've had! It sounds like things worked out pretty well; from food being delivered to garbage being picked up and the rain showers coming in to help out.

I hope this episode has truly passed and there's no more fire danger for you for the rest of the season.

Thanks so much for keeping us updated. Worrisome to us, knowing how close those firesafe getting to you.
Kind of like us with hurricanes, you never know which way they will go, even at the last minute. We've evacuated twice and didn't even need to. But, the thing is, the storm or fires could cause you to lose power, water and you'd be miserable if you stay. Even when we evacuated we heard we had no power for 2 1/2 days at our house, and no damage to our area. I would not be able to stand that- no AC! Or water!
Be careful. Hope the fire doesn't reach you. emoticon

BF read a news report about the fires. I showed him the photos from your blog and shocked.
We have fires too, but we are about 5 miles inland from the nearest beach, so none have been close enough.
    Stay safe!

Fires are always so scary. Praying the fire is out too, or at least contained so it doesn't reach where you live.
I really feel for the Kohala's. Do they know how the fire started?
