Slow progress

Monday, March 01, 2021

I've switched to only weighing in once a month, instead of once a week. I feel good about it - it helps me take a long-term view of the process, rather than obsessing so much about the individual days.

However, this month I only lost 3.4 pounds, which is less than a pound a week. That's disappointing. I feel as though in the past there have been times that I lost that much in a single week! But that's when I was young and my body was more responsive to my efforts. Being old kind of sucks in that way.

So, here's what I'm going to do.

1, identify some things I can do a little differently that may help move things along a bit better.

- Lower my daily calorie range slightly (100 calories) on SP.

- Review my progress for the past month to see how often and when I tended to eat above my range, see if there are any patterns I can change, and make even more of an effort to stay within the new range.

- Move more. I've been a slug this past month! I will walk 10 min at lunch and 10 min after work, get out geocaching more often, and find a yoga, stretching, or dance video I like that I can do 3-4x/week.

2, recognize that 3 pounds is still 3 pounds, and if I keep this up I will have lost 60 pounds in the next 20 months. That's less than 2 years. It took me a lot longer than that to put on the weight, so if I can get it off in 2 years I can be happy with that.
