Day in and day out on repeat!

Sunday, May 02, 2021

When you've been working on staying healthy for most of your life, you learn what really works and what you need to do in order to get healthy and stay healthy. I sort of chuckle at myself when I hear, "I fell off the wagon" or "I took a brake for a bit" or "my weight yo-yo's". I used to be that person. I used to be the one who would work SO hard to lose the weight and focus on nothing but losing weight and getting my body mass down. What is funny to me about those is that what we are all doing here is not just trying to lose weight. We all should be trying to live a healthier lifestyle and make this way of eating part of our lives. It took me YEARS to understand portion sizes (as here in the United States, we do not serve a regular serving size of ANYTHING which teaches us not to know what a serving size even is). Honestly, I've made food, and lots of it, a priority. I would already be thinking about what to eat for the next meal and how it would be covered in lots of stuff that I over indulge in. I also would not really think about what the serving size would be nor my belly being full.

Just few tips to help you eat healthier:

1. make sure you look at the serving size. It make take you a while to get used to grabbing ONLY the serving size of items. Google is EVERYWHERE so just google it. And if you don't want to measure, google images of the serving size for ***insert your food here****.

2. Try to use the freshest food possible. Now, we have a homestead and a large garden and preserve all of our veggies and fruits in the summer and fall for the rest of the year, I purchase half of a cow once a year, and purchase other meats from local farmers. We try to make most of our meals from scratch and try not to eat many, if any, processed foods. Y'all! The processed foods that we buy in the store have SO MUCH yuck in them. :( It is sad to say but truly they do. Try to buy stuff that is in its freshest state. Like cheese for example. Never buy bagged cheese. They put extra ingredients that are nasty in order to keep it from sticking together. Yes, shredding your own may take alittle time but it is so much better for you.

3. Meal plan and prepare foods ahead of time to make cooking fresher easier. Yep, another thing on your to-do list but y'all, it makes a different. I promise. Spending time one day of the week to prepare what you will be eating makes it so much easier during the week. Things will be prepared and you will already know what you will be making days and days ahead.

Hope this was helpful. I'm thankful for my spark family. Many of you, I have known for almost 20 years and I'm so thankful for your friendship and encouragement.
