Rethinking Pesticides

We don’t have to buy organic to get rid of pesticides and waxes. There are ways to do it with baking soda and vinegar. Before I tell you how, let me tell you WHY.

Pesticides mess up the endocrine system, thus the metabolism. They also mess up the reproductive system. Now, we might say that just that little amount doesn’t hurt, but if you eat that little amount hundreds of thousand of times over…. Boom! For your own information and research, Google information on pesticides and the metabolism, obesity, endocrine, and reproductive systems. I want you to be able to draw your own conclusions on the research.

Vinegar and water wash:

In a large bowl, combine 1 part white distilled vinegar to 3 parts water. (For example, place 1 cup of vinegar and 3 cups of water in a bowl)

Place the produce in the solution. Gently stir them, and remove any visible dirt with your fingers. Continue to let them soak for at least 10 minutes.

Drain the produce in a colander and rinse them with water to remove the vinegar taste.

Place the produce on a clean kitchen towel and let air dry.

Store the produce in a clean container but let it breathe. If you use a container that is air-tight leave the lid ajar so the fruits and vegetables don’t build up moisture.

Baking Soda Cleansing:

For a mixing bowl, add 1 teaspoon baking soda to every 2 cups cold water. If your produce is on a vine, such as tomatoes, or leafy like a head of lettuce, separate the produce and remove all vines and outer leaves. Submerge the fruit or vegetables in the baking soda water. Let soak for 12 to 15 minutes.
