Shannon Lukens snapped a photo of her backyard visitor:
This made me smile, because this morning as we drove through downtown Manitou Springs we had to stop and wait for a deer, sauntering across the road to check out the vegetation in someone's yard!
Had a FABULOUS mini-vacation with DD and the 10-yr-old grandson. The Haunted Lantern tour involved VERY weak lights each of us carried through narrow, dark passageways, with intermittent stops to hear new ghost stories from the caves and Manitou Springs area. The 10-yr-old was in heaven, even though he was the only kid on the tour (if you don't count the teenagers). At one point our guide blew out each of our lanterns so we could experience total cave darkness. Then he announced "We are in TOTAL cave darkness in the part of the cave with the most paranormal activity. It's a recipe for disaster." Out of the darkness my grandson's voice piped up "Then why did you...." and everyone on the tour cracked up. Why, indeed, would you blow out our lanterns?!?
DD and the 10-yr-old also did a challenging ropes course - three stories high, walking across wobbly wood blocks and rope lines. The 10-yr-old even went over the part of the course cantilevered over the canyon, where you hold onto ropes above your head as you walk on a tube that rolls. Because they were wearing harnesses and connected to sturdy steel frames they were actually safe, but I think my brain would have revolted at walking on a rolling tube cantilevered 3 stories above the canyon...
Today we toured a Victorian mansion, Miramont Castle Museum, then headed back for a quick swim at the hotel before checking out and heading home. Overall it was a wonderful time with a daughter and grandson I didn't get to spend much time with over the past year. Some GOOD memories for 2021!
