Left to right: William, Adelaida, mother Valentina, Luis -- during one of my visits to Colombia, at the family home of my beloved friend, Adelaida, with her family in Cali.

Currently, Luis has just gotten out of the hospital. William has been on a ventilator for over a week. Though he is improving, there is a concern regarding serious kidney and lung damage.
I love the work of renowned photojournalist Steve McCurry. And because this one feels so appropriate at the moment, I wanted to share it with my Spark community. It helps put things in perspective. Me with my "first world" problem of the dissolution of SparkPeople vs. the humanity McCurry brings front-and-center in the poignant photographs...as well as the worldwide COVID crisis.

The texts are wonderful as well, e.g., “Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear -- not absence of fear.” (Mark Twain)

Here is his blog, Real Courage:

If possible, peruse it on a laptop or PC with expanded screen.

This morning Adelaida sent me this flower from her yard in the country in northern Ecuador via WhatsApp.

I took this on a Sunday morning as we were returning from weekly market, having just gotten off of the bus at the front of her place near Cotacachi, Ecuador.

Yes, in the scheme of things, SP going away is pretty minor - especially when you consider there are myriad ways to continue keeping in touch. emoticon

We are very privileged in America and should appreciate it more. Too many of us are prejudiced, self-centered, etc. I hope Luis and William will have a full recovery!
