Hello and welcome to the team. Check out the Fitness trackers and the Fitness Videos under Healthy Lifestyle. They are awesome tools. there are even exercises you can do while sitting down. One of my favorites is seated leg lifts. Why not try doing 1 set of those each time you sit down. It's quick and simply and doesn't feel like an exercise routine.

I may be slower than some...I look at the top of the page for "My Tools" (it's the orange tab on the far left)and when the menu list drops down, I click on "Start". Even I can do most things from there. emoticon

Hi and welcome to the team.

STUDEBAKERS when you log in and go to where you spin the wheel is also where you put your food in it will say food taken in and you click on that and it will take you to where you will put your food in. When you are done you can click on the long button and calulate where all you calories are broken up into. When you get done there on the right side you will see "view SparkPoints" you click on that and it will take you back to that page again and you can click on more to put info into it like your exercises and also posting too. The points are just little rewards that you can give your self or other people that you want to give "goodies" to.

Dorothy

If you tell God no because He won't explain the reason He wants you to do something, you are actually hindering His blessing. But when you say yes to Him, all of heaven opens to pour out His goodness and reward your obedience. What matters more than material blessings are the things He is teaching us in our spirit.
Charles Stanley

Hi I joined a week ago and am having trouble understanding the way Sparkpeople work. I need to have a place where I can report what I eat and how much water I drink and how much exercise I do.
Do I just keep track of this myself or is there a place where I can put this in. I don't understand the points.

I have only been on the site a couple of days and feel like I have a whole team of cheer leaders behind me full of enthusiasm, personal insights and great ideas. I will dust off the old journal and enlist it into my artillery tonight! Thanks

Oh, man, you need to journal and think about how important YOU are and how being healthy is a gift we give ourselves. You can do this. The Spark book is a great tool, but start small, walk, plan your meals, get rid of toxic foods in your house, take care of yourself. You are not alone. This site rocks!

Don't try to do a large exercise. Start with 10 minute increments. All small amounts add up.

There are two options regarding committment - your either IN or your OUT. There is no such thing as life in-between.

A person who wants something will find a way..
A person who doesn't will find an excuse...

Thank you for that comment about trying to be an all or nothing and always winding up with nothing! Perfectionism is another way to look at my procrastination. Thanks

For me, a big reason I resisted working-out is that I feel like, once I start, I better not fail by not following through EVERY day and with a certain amount accomplished, so...better to never start than start and stop....how silly, but true!
The Spark teaches us to use small goals and it works! My exercise goal now is 10 minutes daily, that doesn't mean I can't do more but it certainly lets me enjoy a pretty easy success. If I'm having a busy day and feel I don't have time to use my treadmill, I will pick a household chore that needs attention and do it with a quicker pace and work up a sweat for 10 minutes.

Have you tried the Wii Fit Plus? It's even better. It gives you an option to use pre-set routines. I love the Kung-Fu and the bicycle ride. My absolute favorite activity has to be the boxing, though. I can do that alone for 30 minutes. I gave up my gym membership and bought the Wii 2 years ago because I couldn't get myself motivated to drive to the gym. It was well worth the money (and now the price has come down since I purchased mine)

I can so relate. I agree with Harleydiva07 about Wii fit. It is the only excercise plan I've found that is fun. For some reason, it works way better at keeping me motivated than an excercise dvd. My kids had it and finally talked me into trying it...now I'm hooked. I showed it to a friend of mine whose kids are grown and she liked it so well she went out and bought herself a Wii gaming system just so she could get wii fit. Good luck...this site is so inspirational, or rather all the nice people in it are inspirational.

I have been the ultimate couch potato for most of my life. Even as a kid I would rather sit and read a book than be outside playing. (could be why I've been overweight all of my life!!). Start out small - don't try to do too much at one time because you'll get frustrated and then you'll quit. Maybe just try walking. Get a pedometer and track your steps. I have a Wii and find Wii fit to be a good workout because it's fun, too. I have also started parking as far away from entrances as possible, just to get in extra steps. I take the stairs whenever possible. Lately, I have been parking on the 6th floor of our parking garage and taking the steps both up and down. It's 90 steps and by the time I get to the 5th floor I'm feeling it! But you need to get that feeling of determination going - my goal is to move to the 7th floor in 2 weeks.
Good luck -- don't get discouraged. This is really a great place to talk to others because we've all be through it! emoticon

I so get it.
Try my plan........until I discovered this I was the same place as you.
It is simple...The 3 Ps (Prayer, Pushaways & Perseverance) When I stop & pray when I feel weak...when I open up about how I feel & ask for His strength, His focus to help me in another direction..it makes all the difference. Try it, you'll like it!!

Of course alot goes along with this like proper grocery shopping & clearing the house of temptations that you don't need!!
Good Luck!
blessings,
gail

Hi I have given myself the nick name of Angelfiftyfour because I need divine intervention not because I have a big ego! I eat healthy foods however I find myself starting the day motivated, doing well and then after lunch I start to spiral. and graze! I know this is emotional eating and eating out of boredom.... anotherl issue for me though is exercise and my doctor even said forget the food you are fine with the food just move! That is where I have been permanently in neutral and need HELP to get moving--in any direction. I am a bit overwhelmed reading the fitness plan, to say the least, but even a tiny goal seems impossible to meet, though I am not sure why....HELP, please!
