Hi everyone,

I'm new to SparkPeople, but I've been working on changing my lifestyle for about a month on another website. I borrowed The Spark book from my local library last week, and a lot of things in the book really clicked in my mind, especially regarding Fast Breaks, rewards instead of punishment, and setting real goals. I've started to work these concepts into my life, and I think these things will make all the difference.

I decided to migrate over here from the other site after getting frustrated with the "support" I found in many of the forums... people telling me I eat too many calories because they only eat 1000-1200, others insisting that they know "The One and Only Way to Lose Weight" (tm), and constant arguments about why grains/protein/carbs/fat/meat/sugar/other is either EVIL or the "Magic Superfood" (tm) that will save your life.


I guess my diet is kind of boring... there's no sensational secret or magic pill. I'm just eating balanced meals, meeting my calorie goals of 1600-1800 net calories per day, and exercising at the gym 3-5 times a week. It's working for me so far, so I'm going to stick with it... I'm very fortunate to have a partner who is very supportive of everything I do, but I hope I can find additional support and motivation from other Spark People.

Your body is a machine, give it the fuel it needs:

*Eat before you're hungry, drink before you're thirsty. The machine works better when it's well primed.

*Plan ahead. You wouldn't drive through the desert on a quarter-tank of gas, would you?

*Quality in, quality out. Proper nutrition will help you get maximum benefit from your workout.
