I also have an irritating cough and I never smoked. I am living with it for several years and it takes a lo out of you! I am taking medication for reflux, but I am also on boniva. I am thinking of stopping Boniva in two months after talking with my gynecologist and see if that helps. Good Luck with your cough!

Yes, a bad cough and/or bronchitis are well known side effects of GERD/acid reflux. The stomach acid irritates the esophagus causing the cough.

It sounds like an Asthma cough to me! A lot of people with GERD also have Asthma. Before I was diagnosed with either, I was being checked out by the hospital for a possible heart condition. The Specialist was aware of the coughing and decided to check me for Asthma. He said I didn't have it. Anyway, one day I took a patient to her GP (not MY GP) and I was coughing considerably. Cold air aggravates it as does some other things). He checked me out and said that my lungs were clear and that it was "Low Grade Asthma!" I had an inhaler and was using it at the time. When I visited MY GP I told him what the other Dr had said. He was quite pleased that a Dr was able to check me out at the time, and said that this wasn't uncommon. Using a preventer inhaler and ventolin twice daily, I don't really have a cough much at all now.

I don't smoke either, and my coughing could end up with either vomiting or wetting myself :-(

After a zillion Dr. visits and one in-out bronchoscopy they have now decided to treat my chronic bronchial cough as Reflux~~~~~~Amazing.
I have been given three different meds the first of which is Pantoprazole I'm starting today...the 2nd I add in May & the 3rd I add in June....I am at the end of my rope with this cough which has gone on for years & sometimes injures my ribs...it is so hard & deep.
Sounds like terrible smokers cough & I have NEVER smoked. I have stopped going to my
small groups & am embarrassed at church...I would NEVER go to a movie....and early to
bed as I am so beaten down. Has anyone ever had or heard of these types of symptoms???
Anxious to hear.....gail
