This is tradition for us with our daughter and some of our sons join us when the can get off work . Her birthday is August 29. When the kids were little, we went as a family. Noise, Food, Kids, Music, Animals, Fish, Plants, Crafts, Families and more. Try it one time and experience it. emoticon

Another year without going to the fair for me. Never been there. Maybe next year I can handle walking through a never-ending parade of fried-this-on-a-stick temptations with self-control and limits, but not yet...

We went last Friday, had tickets to the concert. I only ate a corn dog, we got there just after noon, so packed a lunch, and took water bottles with us, and kept filling that up. Oh, and watermelon, at Andres, had a coupon.

Glad you only gained a pound. I would think with all the walking you wouldn't gain any but then it is slow walking and probably stopping a lot.

Okay...so I went to the Fair yesterday and ate the things I shouldn't have (it's only one day...right?)...and walked for almost EIGHT hours! Even with the things I ate (cheese curds are my weakness)...I only gained a pound (as of this morning)...so that walking and the fact that I've been exercising so much lately really helped! It's nice to know that you can have down day once in awhile and still be okay.

Blessings,

Jennifer

I will be going to the state fair next weekend. I have friends coming in from out of town so would love to show off Minnesota. I usually go for the curly fries, lemonade and ribs! I love the crafts hut and the H4 house. WIll certainly share my food with my friends.

I'm hoping to go on Wednesday with my daughter Gail, her daughter Rachel, and her son Isaac. I love cheese curds and that's probably all I will eat. It will be interesting what 4 generations will do especially since the youngest is not quite 2. He will be in a stroller and the other two a very active with lots of stamina. We'll probably focus more on what he won't get bored with. I used to head for the midway because I love rides but had grown out of fitting in the seats. If we go anywhere like that I'm sure it will be the kidway.

Can't make the fair this year (or several previous ones) but love the pork chops on a stick and cotton candy. I now get the cotton candy at Walmart in a plastic container. Surprisingly only about 100 calories for the container. emoticon

I try to go every year. I like the crafts, people watching, and food. I think the fair is the only place my DH and I go each year. We are kind of home bodies. I like the corn, gyro, potato skins, and corn dogs. I will share what I can or just not eat it all. All the walking helps to counteract the extra food I eat.

I love the State Fair...just the hub and bub of it. I generally try to taste the not so healthy food that my hubby buys, a bite or two, and then stick to the healthier foods. They do have salads and fruit and baked potatoes, even grilled chicken on a stick!

I've not been for a few years now and I won't be going this year either. For me it's the crowds. The older I get the less I like them. Even when I used to go regularly, I usually only bought one or two items of food. I don't think it's all that great to tell the truth and I hate that I have to eat standing up. The Taste of Minnesota doesn't draw me either. The first couple of years it was right outside where I worked so it was easy to go and the food was actually good way back then. Not any more. As my uncle used to say "Taint worth it" emoticon

Haven't been to the State Fair in years. It costs too much money and about a 4 hour drive to the outskirts probably 5 hours to the fairgrounds.
When I was a teenager I used to go every year. I would walk the whole grounds plus go to the stock car races and the horse show.

I can't afford to go. We live up north and can't afford the drive, admission, food, rides, and some where to stay if it gets to late to drive back home. Oh yeah the parking costs, too. We were hoping that my son didn't place in the local kids pedal tractor pull. Guess we didn't have to worry they used a larger tractor for his age group this year and he struggled to reach the pedales. Hopefully next year we will have the money and he will place.

I used to go everyday to the North Dakota State Fair. I even went to all the concerts, but we only lived about 45 minutes away.

I've never been to the state fair and a big reason I don't want to go (besides crowds of loud, sticky children) is all of the tempting foods there. I once heard a local food reviewer on an MPR show live from the fair talk about how he gets one of everything, tries a few bites to experience it, then throws the rest away. People freak out on him, for wasting for yes, but mostly for not wanting the whole thing if it's so delicious. The critic has a lot of self-control in this regard, though I wonder if that's due to his job and needing to have room in his stomach to experience so many things instead of just a few.

I can't stop thinking about the fair! My favorite food item is the garlic fries. I agree that the best thing to do is to share them. If that is all I get at the fair I will be more than happy.

Just wondering if anyone is going to the Fair this year. What is everyone going to do about food at the fair? What is everyones favorite food at the fair? My favorite is the cheese curds. I go to the fair just for the food and people watching. My plan this year is to share every food item I get. The first bite or two is always the best anyhow. Then do alot of walking.
