Still here, still going strong. Lots of ups and downs (loads of downs lately) but we're here and surviving. Very active in a scrapbooking team and a military team. Been scrapping for years and youngest DD enlisted in the Marines four years ago.....in fact, she's already done and home.... whew!
Weight is horrible as the knees are shot and I can't even walk as much as I used to. So, here for the support and what activities I can be involved in.

I'm glad the youngest is done, presumable safely. It's a great and tough thing to do. I'm doing the ups and downs and hanging in there. DS has now moved from Texas to California. I told him he's stretching the umbilical cord a bit too far.

WOW! That's just nucking futz! SEVEN years!

We've had plenty of both as well..... horribly down in the last several months, but it's coming back around. We have to learn to live with a new "normal", but we're learning.

So glad you're still here. Wonder how many of us there are!!!

HAPPY SEVENTH Class of August 2008!!!

Had to dust the cobwebs off this thread to make my comment : )

Just wanted to wish all my classmates a happy 7th (yes, can you believe it) Sparkversary.

No matter the ups and downs (and I've had plenty of both) we cannot abandon the quest for a healthy lifestyle. I hope everyone is well and staying motivated.

Blessings

Seems like class is no longer in session. I, myself, have been missing from the spark scene for almost a year. Hope everyone is doing well and have achieved/progressing towards their goals . It would still be nice to touch base once in a while especially around our sparkversary time. Can't believe it will be 6 years this year - WOW! I've never been this consistent with anything.

Blessings to all, stay warm

Oh we have Skype. But the person on the other end has to make time to use it......... Unfortunately, The Corps doesn't allow her much down time and once she gets home, she's just this side of exhausted. We see them just about every six months-ish. If The Corps won't allow them to come home, we go out there. It's all good.

Btw, I'm on SP every day. Just not here very often since our members have kinda gone on their own way as well.

Whoops, sorry, Carla!! Shows you how long it's been since you popped in!!

Sounds like your DDs have good plans in place. I don't get to see my (step) grandson much, either, and I don't like it at all. But I have to tolerate it, I guess.
My DS is in grad school (Texas A&M) a thousand miles away; that's been pretty hard on me. We try to Skype a couple of times a month, which helps because at least I can SEE that he's OK. Maybe you should try to set up a skype schedule with your DD so you can see that grandbaby and she can see you! That way if months go by until you can see her again, she won't feel like you're a stranger because she'll be used to seeing and hearing you.

Pam? You talking to me, Dawn? Carla.

Working, scrapping, walking, "raising" adult daughter, raising grandkids, HA!

Work at the school is great. Losing weight and exercising regularly is a continual struggle. Oldest DD and her son have moved back home. She graduated from college, but was not able to find a job that paid her bills. She decided to go back to school in nursing. She's excited, we're hopeful. Youngest DD enlisted in the Marine Corps 2.5 years ago and is stationed in NJ, of all places. She had a daughter last November and the only drawback is that they're so far away. Don't know how other grammies do it with their grandkids not nearby. Honestly, we've been spoiled by having Kolten here and feel like we're missing so much with Caddie across the country!

That's all. emoticon

It's been hit-and-miss over the years. I'm WAY more active on SP when I have computer access. Finally broke down and ordered a new laptop (my old one is S-L-O-W), so once it arrives, Sparkers should be seeing more of me. Lucky them! LOL

Thanks Dawn! I think there's no choice but to keep trying! I hired a personal trainer in December (2012). I see her once a week, and keep up an exercise regimen.

My husband has committed to working out with me on a regular basis...we're on a quest to get younger over the next 5 years so that we can be healthy for retirement! I've been really pleased with my commitment this year!

Glad to hear that you're hanging in there too!

All is well here in the Northeast of New York ...... woke up to over a foot of snow, but I got in my workout early by snow blowing the drive and a bit of shoveling too. Ahhh, winter is officially here now. (no, I don't really care for the snow, but it is what it is emoticon )

I wish you all a very Happy and Healthy New Year too!! emoticon

In the last heat wave I gained 4 pounds ..... how, I have no idea. .... and for about 3-1/2 - 4 weeks I was at a complete standstill. The body was getting used to the big change. Since mid last week I have lost those 4 and and additional 5 lbs. So, since October I've lost 71 lbs - approx 31 before surgery and 40 after. Even when the pounds were "stuck" my inches were changing. My 'bat wing" arms and the rest of my jiggles are now my badges of honor .... well, if I can't have a sense of humor about where would I be? emoticon

I'm glad that you are back on your exercise routine - just focus on your health and the pounds will start to fall.

I just got back into my exercise routine, so it's hard push to drop the pounds AGAIN!

Happy pre 4th of July to my American team mates!

I hope that everything is going well for everyone. I've been back to the gym for about 3 weeks and loving it! I'm doing the early morning "shift" at the gyms 3 to 4 days a week.... and have a lot more energy.

Well, if you just got cleared to exercise, take it slow and don't overdo it. And let us know how it goes

I hear ya about the giggly bits! ***I started saying that my bat wings are my badge or courage emoticon I'm cleared for the gym - so will be signing up again next week. Instead of Planet Fitness I'm gonig to go to the YMCA as they have a pool and that will help the old joints keep moving. I took my bike out....once....but it's a start!! I may take it out again tonight if it doesn't rain.

No, I'm still struggling, which ticks me off greatly because it's warm out and now I see all my jiggly bits in all their glory, which you'd think would be motivation enough to kick my butt into gear!!

Not doing well, but doing. I need to get back on track; I'm gaining instead of losing!! Seem to have lost my self control but I'm hell-bent on tracking it down and beating it into submission!! How are YOU doing??

Hi Classmates,

Just checking in. Not much activity on this thread but I hope that means people are busying working and connecting on other teams. I did a lot of backsliding during the latter 1/2 of 2011, but am starting strong for 2012! My ticker is on the move again.

I know it's a long way to sparkeversay #4 but I'm already trying to come up with a fun way to celebrate. Would welcome any suggestions.

Take care

Do you have any lactation consultants around your area that can help you find a balance? I know we had one at our local hospital when my DS was a baby, and it was really helpful.

I hear that. I'm feelinga little beat down today. I was having a lot of issues with my milk supply for nursing Jonathan so I've kind of fell off the eating good wagon. What's really weird is my supply seems to have come back now too. So not sure what to do as I don't want this to effect my milk but I want to eat healthy and work out.

Yes that is understandable. It actually told me the team here was inactive. I know I wasn't around much over the last year or so. Are you on the BL challange? I'm guess that from your profile pic? I've done it in the passed and might come back on the next round.

I was shocked to come back and see how "dead" this forum has become. I am finally trying to get back into a routine of working out and eating better. I have made all of my family's dinners this week mostly from scratch which is HUGE for me...I don't cook.

How is everyone doing? Things are going well enough here - gym tonight after work.... getting back on track...I was bad over the weekend...actually I've been bad for almost 2 weeks.... one little transgression has snowballed....I'm (once again) getting back on track. I've exercised as I should, but eating has been off plan for too many days. I did well at the wedding on Saturday, but its the times that I've been alone that have been bad. The first step is to recognize it, right? LOL

Hello - how is everyone doing? Just plugging along here - the weather has been beautiful the past 2 days - watched my future step-daughter cheerleading in the rain Friday night - it was Senior Night so we had to be there to walk her across the field. We were all drenched and cold, but It was worth it emoticon

The scale is being weird (yes, the scale not me LOL) but I'll figure it out... Have a great one!!!

Good Morning Everyone!

Here in Central NY the sun is shining (for now), in the mid 70's and not humid! I think that I'll have my lunch outside today.

I have been trying to get myself on more of a pre-op diet to see if I would be able to stick to what would be required of me if/when WLS comes my way....and so far so good. Is it fear or is it determination? Probably a little of both *LOL* and in the 3 weeks since my doctor appointment (when I agreed to see the specialist..which is in late October) I've lost 15 pounds!

No, I'm not starving myself....I am making almost all of my daily requirements per my sparkpeople nutrition page (I am a low carb person so that is below) .... but at my weight it is not abnormal to lost that amount ..... but I also know it won't last...but so far I have!! I have been very careful with what I consume - I have even gone out for Mexican food and asked for a to-go container with my meal and split it.... skinny waiter looked at me weird as it was only 1 burrito and 1 helping of Spanish rice, but I didn't care.

Well, that's whats new here....how about with all of you? Kitty - are you feeling better? I'm off to read your blog...

Talk to you all soon

The reception was fun. And yes, it did work to imagine my Sparkfriends were lurking around watching me to see if I pigged out. I only ate three crackers, two slices of cheese, and some red and green peppers with a little veggie dip!!

In some smaller towns around Central New York, the fire departments are all volunteer, so to raise money they have a field days - basically it's a small festival, there are rides, games and food. They have bands near the "beer tent" (it's not actually a tent anymore lol) and on Friday and Saturday night there were fireworks, and Sunday was the Labor Day Parade. I did not over indulge in any of the food...no cotton candy, but did have a fried dough emoticon .

I didn't end up at the gym on Monday, but my BF came over while daughter was working and we just chilled - it was nice. Went to the gym last night and worked it!

Dawn how was the wedding reception? Did the thought of us watching you help?

Back to work....*sigh* I'll check back later - everyone have an awesome day!!

Sounds like you're getting back on track, Kathy. Firemen's Field Days? Sounds like fun!! I kind of picture it as a small town picnic with everyone mingling at a park. Do I have it right?

Waiting for BF to get his butt through the shower so we can head to the wedding reception. We're going to eat dinner first because it's an "appetizer reception" and appetizers are my favorite food group. I'm hoping if I eat dinner first I won't graze my way through the reception. I'm going to imagine you're all there watching me - maybe THAT will motivate me to behave!!!

I went to the Firemen's Field Days in my town last night - with family and friends - ate some empty calories, but did workout in the morning and didn't go over....still felt icky ..... left after the fireworks. Supposed to do it again tonight w/BF and 2 of his daughters .... will pack a snack bar or two to make sure I don't eat anything without nutritional value...except maybe a bite of cotton candy lol ..... tomorrow is church and chillin' maybe mow the lawn - nothing Monday except maybe the gym.

We're doing the Renaissance Fair Sunday; have a wedding to go to Saturday night. Monday we were going to do something with BF's daughter, but she's being a bit pissy right now and may not want to hang out with us. I also have to clean the carpeting; every Memorial Day and Labor Day my mom gets the carpet cleaning machine from her work (she works for a company that manufactures them).

As for the holidays, I find it completely disgusting that on September 1st some stores had their Christmas displays started; Friday at the grocery store I noticed some holiday special flavors on the shelves. Can we get a law passed that no Christmas stuff can be displayed before thanksgiving?????????

Haha Dawn!

Soon it will be Halloween... And we all know the days will whiz by when that happens. (Including turkeys running for their lives and crazy moms elbowing and punching at the local Target for the newest toy)

Good luck Kathy on your appointment! And good job on logging food and working out after work! (How do people do that? After a day's work, I get desperate for my bed and a cat)

What is every one doing this weekend? DH and I will be doing our weekly Sat 8-mile hike on Sat *and* Monday. Other than that, I have *huge* plans to plant my butt on my couch.

I am telling my brain that it's July. If my brain thinks September, it goes into a downward spiral!

Happy September 1st!!! I know that we are all very sad to see summer slipping away, but on the bright side - think of all of the crisp autumn walks and bike rides and runs you can take!!

Sounds like you've got a good plan in place; do your research and go from there. It's one of those decisions that require a lot of research and thought when it comes to what's best for your health.

And logging your food plus working out is great!!! If you do decide to go with the surgery, you'll need to still track your food, watch your proteins especially, and exercise to keep your body healthy.

I made the call today - waiting for an appointment.... that does not mean that I have made my decision yet ... LOL Weighing the Health Benefits against Pride & Fear, as I've been told.... and I've done a lot of research - talked to some people I know who've had different procedures...

What I am sure of - is that I am logging my food and working out after work! emoticon
Maybe the fear will keep me in high gear LOL

I hope everyone had a great weekend and that those on the east coast of the US are safe and sound

Exactly!!!! I support you in whatever decision you make; I have heard of people with health problems that had the surgery and kept the health benefits even if they gained the weight back. Do some research on that!

Kathy - I'm so glad you made that correction! I was worried there for a bit when I saw the word "barbaric." I was picturing a lobotomy and things of that nature. emoticon

Re: Bariatric surgery, I've read a lot of really great success stories including here on SP, but have not heard of one long-term in person (maybe I need to expand my circle?). My advisor in college had it done, and after pairing it up with exercise and healthy eating, she lost an amazing 100 lbs +. The unfortunate part was when she gained it back, however, she wasn't a member of anything like WW or SP, so I'm sure that made it extra hard to keep the weight off.

But whatever your decision may be, we support you 100%!!!

We seem to be doing pretty good. I still have issues with yo-yoing, but at least it's within 15 lbs. As for the surgery, if you're talking bariatric, my best friend had it done a few years back, had some complications. I'm not sure if she'd do it again. It's definitely a very personal decision; I also know some people who had it, with no complications and great results. There's a lot to consider.
