Grateful on this last day of June
* For the heat wave on the wane... SO nice to be "in the 90's again" after the brutal past few weeks
* My body is starting to rebound from whatever I have been dealing with this past week.
* A dear friend who brought me dinner two nights in a row, since he knew how lousy I was feeling
* Acceptance of staying indoors for a few days
* Discovering naps can be wonderful
* My overall good health despite the extra pounds.

On this cloudy Tuesday evening, I'm grateful for:

-Yes, to hearing from friends! emoticon
-Getting weaned off of Spark points and most else Spark (e-mail and gratitudes remain), slowly, but surely
-Still considering the many options out there; know what I don't want, still need to figure out the rest
-Testing not tracking food or exercise in detail. I've been on maintenance for well over a year; so far, so good, but don't EVER want to lose sight of my happy weight, so will want to keep a tracker part-time
-Good progress on home projects; things are feeling better and better around here all the time ... and I'm headin' into a 5-day weekend, so who knows what will happen!

Cherish the moments,
Stephanie

Grateful
* For my Monday morning weigh in that was consistent. Down 26 pounds in 25 weeks. Goal is one pound a week, and I am RIGHT on TARGET! This includes several "get aways" and LOTS of restaurant food.
* Air conditioning in the midst of this unrelenting heat wave. My heart goes out to those in the Pacific Northwest where under normal circumstances it is relatively cool, so most homes do NOT have A/C. Temps were 110-115 yesterday....
* My son's wisdom. SO proud of him.
* Life events that have brought me to this place on my personal journey.
* The years we have all shared on Sparks, and this particular team...

On this quiet Monday morning, I'm grateful for:

-An absolutely wonderful time when my best friend drove up from Amarillo for four days; my first overnight company in 1-1/2 years
-The beautiful stained glass dragonfly piece she made for me, delivered and installed
-Lots and lots of walking, nature and fun packed into a short time; more active than I've been in a long while too
-Cassie, Cleo and Rosie ALL love Barbara too ... Rosie even played fetch with her, something she's NEVER done for anybody else
-Having another old friend Barbara hadn't seen in nearly 10 years over for dinner while she was here
-My comfortable home
-Always, my health!

Cherish the moments,
Stephanie

Happy personal new year to you, Kathy!

Gratitude

Kathy’s description of her San Francisco adventure brought back happy memories of the delightful trip there with Kathy and Vivian

Enjoying a not-too-warm water tub soak

Finding a recommended book, Squeeze Me, by Carl Hiaasen, very entertaining

Enjoying my sour dough bread purchase from a local-ish bakery, and enjoying it in moderation

Trip planned for next week to visit Robert’s 94-year-old mother

Blessed be,

Happy Friday night!

With gratitude for
* Memories of weekly phone calls to or from my dad every Friday...happy Friday night!
* A fabulous belated birthday trip... three nights in San Francisco (for those of you who know the city, we stayed at the Mark Hopkins) with beautiful views of iconic San Francisco sights from our room (Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Grace Cathedral, the pyramid, and the Pacific Union Club)
* Losing two pounds while gone, even after restaurant food only for almost four full days
* Pool time in my own back yard!
* The ability to swim 66 laps (almost 1/2 mile) slowly, but effectively
* Learning to say no, rather than to overextend myself.

On this quiet Tuesday morn, I'm grateful for:

-A walk and talk with dear friend for over an hour last night
-Finding a lovely patio for outdoor eating I never knew was there, just in time for our interesting dinner after our walk, some of the best tabbouleh I've ever eaten
-No harm when Co2 alarm went off in the tiny gas station/restaurant, while two fire trucks and an ambulance arrived lights and sirens rolling ... hence, our "interesting" and noisy dinner
-My friend, who's quite the baker, gifted me two slices of his banana sour cream cake, yum!
-Also getting a good walk in at the cemetery at lunch, taking full advantage of a gorgeous day with lower temps by getting two walks in
-My gratitude practice, such a grounding piece in my life

Cherish the moments,
Stephanie

~ Adelaida's brother continues the fight, battling the evil Covid. He has recently been on kidney dialysis. Hopefully it is a temporary intervention. On this hot summer Friday afternoon, I'm grateful for:

-An easier work week this week; next week my best friend comes in from Amarillo, so a short work week
-My best friend is delivering/installing a stained glass dragonfly piece she made for me!
-Lots of good reading material since I don't plan on being outside much this weekend, unless it's to drive for ice cream, which I won't bring in the house! emoticon
-Lots of testing with intuitive eating, not logging until the day is done. So far, my numbers AND macronutrients have been spot on. I KNOW how to eat, as long as I pay attention!
-Still holding strong in my final SparkPeople 9-week maintenance challenge
-A really good cantaloupe, my first of the season

Sandra - "They" say that having a pet (dog or cat, and probably others) helps your stress levels and lowers your risks of some medical issues!!

On this quiet Tuesday evening, I'm grateful for:

-A wonderfully seasoned homemade balsamic vinaigrette I made
-Organic farmer's market fresh produce, thoroughly enjoying this week
-A great 1x1 with my manager today; enlightening in many ways (positives)
-My company only allowing vaccinated people in the office; others must work from home until the pandemic is over; SO grateful since I'll be in the office a few days a week starting mid-September, but only for a few months when I'll go full-time remote
-Progress on inside projects since it's so hot outside
-The best three kitties I could ask for; they constantly amaze and teach me

Cherish the moments,
Stephanie

* A well insulated home with central air condition as we prepare for a hideous heat wave this week.
* One last day of double digits before the temps hit 100-110 degrees!
* Pool surface being applied today! (and I LOVE my selections of the newly installed tile on the stairs!)
* Painter busy in my dining room
* Abrasive family member conintuing to "polish" me
* List making SO helpful!

Sat grats
* A quiet day, with lots of time to reflect on this day, which would have been our 33rd wedding anniversary. Grateful for the 25 years we had together, and the ups and downs of life that we were able to share.
* A great swim after a day of leisure
* Seeing my old boss in the pool! It has been over 7 years since I'd seen her, and she is temporarily staying with her mom who moved in a few blocks away. What a delightful surprise to catch up while doing our gentle laps!
* First solar estimate done
* Loving the color in my family room

This morning I am grateful for the people we will see this morning at the farmers market. We have had unseasonably hot weather and no rain for over a week now. That has to make their lives more difficult and exhausting.
I am grateful for the people I have met on SparkPeople, mostly virtually, but some in person.
I am grateful that we will hopefully have slightly cooler weather this coming week.
I am grateful for all I learn from my grandsons - that total delight can be found in a dishpan of water, some watering cans, and some turkey basters on a hot day. Note: we since bought a blow up kiddie pool, since two toddlers don't really fit in a dishpan!

Friday gratitudes

* Family room with new paint!
* Pool alarms up, after only a mild melt down and struggle to figure out how to install them so I * * Final work on pool to be finished next week!
* Back to making a list each day REALLY helped me stay focused enough to get through the past few days
* Handymen, painters, inspectors that show up on time
* Breaking down and calling an exterminator to rid the cockroaches in my garage and having him tell me they are non aggressive, non harmful Turkministan roaches, that prefer outdoors and do not present a problem.

On this hot Friday morning, I'm grateful for:

-Options, so many options (Maha, so far, MyFitnessPal tracker is the closest I can find to SparkPeople's very robust nutrition database - hope this helps)
-Holding my resolve for less Facebook, not more (sorry, Kathy (see your Spark Mail) and all; wanted you to know why I'm not joining the FB private group)
-Re-evaluating the Spark features I've used for years (Kathy, guess I'll be going back to paper "to do" lists also; I've used the Spark task list for years!).
-E-mail & telephones; if anybody wants to stay in touch, please let me know. I would love to keep in touch, but will be here until Spark closes mid-August
-Getting to see lots of co-workers at an outdoor retirement party this week, faces I'd not seen in person for 15+ months
-A clean house ... aaaaaaah
-Only vaccinated folks are allowed into the office as of June 15; I will soon be able to go visit my office again after 15+ months and it will be very strange, I'm sure
-These amazing three kitty girls I live with who give me such constant joy, laughter and unconditional love with no expectations (other than a nudge if I'm late with their dinner!)

Cherish the moments,
Stephanie

Thursday gratitudes
* Slept for almost 8 hours last night without awakening
* I managed to get through yesterday, with all the piles of "stressors" on my plate.
* Started writing lists again to keep me focused. A habit I'd gotten out of. Realization of how scattered I can get without one, and as a result of my list today, I am taking care of so many things that I've put off for what seems like forever!
* Another gorgeous coolish day, with no A/C required
* The amazing response to the new FB group! The familiar faces from SparkPeople, and others who have never taken up this practice before!

If you haven't joined yet, please check it out!

~ celebrating Kathy's four-year cancer-free marker with her!

~ accepting my confusion and anxiety at having to transition out of SparkPeople by mid-August, hopeful that I will find the answers I need in the time I need them. My main concern is being able to track daily food intake. Damn! I'm going to miss SparkPeople! Word is that a nutrition tracker will be available on SparkAmerica in September. (The Thanksgiving community on Facebook is a great fit!)

~ the handyman is creating new beauty as well as rehabbing what exists

~ relieved to have air conditioning in these hot AR days with intolerable humidity (80-93%)

Wednesday gratitudes.
- An excellent visit with my oncologist. Celebrating four years cancer free!
- Lunch date with a good friend
- Assistance in trying to figure out how to install pool alarms on my sliders
- A family member with whom I struggle I am reminded that she can be sandpaper used to polish me. I dont ever have to like her, but I get to to practice compassion and forgiveness. I thought I had gotten there years ago, but with a situation that forces us to work together, my distain is rearing its ugly head!
- being on the same page with several people. Realizing I am not always the odd man out.

I've been a member of SparkPeople since 2008 and this has been my Healthy Home all that time. I'm sad and disheartened by the news. I wonder if SparkAmerica will offer the trackers? Yes, let's create/maintain community some way, somehow, Kathy and Stephanie and...?

At 12:15am Monday I'm grateful~~

~ that I can sleep until I wake up (7am???)

~ for a reasonable eating day

~ optimistic about tomorrow's weigh-in, but NO EXPECTATIONS since they set me up for disappointment

~ the handyman continues the work tomorrow morning -- feeling good about the progress

~ beginning my first Nevada Barr book, a murder mystery taking place at Lake Superior, where I hope to be for several days this fall (she was a park ranger at one point and all her books take place in National Parks, I believe

Good night,

Sunday morning, and I express gratitude
* For a lovely day in the California foothills yesterday
* Pool wall is half way done...the end is in sight!
* Decision for interior paint down to two colors! (I have until Thursday, when the painting begins!)
* Another family zoom meeting scheduled for this evening. Getting closer....
* A gift of musical, deep toned, wind chimes for my patio

**** I am stunned! Sparks has been part of my life for 15 years, and I have taken it for granted. This page has always been my grounding. And I will miss it terribly. We DO have other options.

FaceBook is one. And I like it.
ItrackBites is another. It is identical to the Weight Watchers app, but is either free or $35/year. (depending on the weight loss plan you choose) There are groups there as well as weight loss plans/tracking, etc.

See what other options you can all come up with... I would love to stay connected!

For those that may not have heard or yet read ...

Hello Everyone,

I'm sure I'm not the only one saddened to see the announcement posted early this Sunday morning that SparkPeople will be shutting down in August.

www.sparkpeople.com/resource/wellness_ar
ticles.asp?id=2659

www.sparkpeople.com/resource
/wellness_
articles.asp?id=2659

If you read the announcement carefully, you'll see that they're asking people to join FB, "as we work to build community features on SparkAmerica." So it sounds like there isn't currently a community platform for anyone over there, even people from the US.

This makes me very sad ... but I'm also grateful for the many years spent here (since 2004, for me).

Stephanie

On this quiet Friday evening, I'm grateful for:

-Another work week put to rest; even though a 3-day work week felt like a 2-week work week after having 5 days off, go figure
-Having a longtime friend over for a special dinner on the deck tomorrow night
-The motivation I always muster when I have somebody coming over (great way to get the house looking better, though it's not too bad to begin with)
-These amazing strawberries; one pint of 3 is already gone, sweet berry by sweet berry, every bite savored
-This. Deck time with a friend. One of the many treasures I have ... and have enjoyed a few impromptu wine and cheese visits on the deck ... each a happy memory
-Always, my health and the health of my family and friends

Stephanie

On this quiet Thursday evening, I'm grateful for all of this, and so much more:

-Treating myself in so many ways by driving to the farm of an organic grower's family, and pre-ordering the most amazing strawberries I've ever eaten, at $5.15/pint ... I got THREE! I will savor every berry
-Picked up a few other goodies there: fresh eggs, French butterhead lettuce, scallions, garlic scapes, but those berries ... oh my!
-Rosie hanging out with me tonight while I'm thinking of gratitude; she makes me laugh the most of the three, a good thing!
-My little cheek bone injury from the dolly has healed up quite nicely in short order
-A short work week ... after 5 days off, feel like I need that! Ha!
-My kitchen skylight, where I adore standing underneath, chopping fruits or veggies in the natural light
-Pondering a bit of deck time as the sun sets ... I can hear the waterfalls

Cherish the moments,
Stephanie

The first thing I am thankful today is that Kaligirl set up this month's thread! (I actually remembered yesterday morning, but forgot to do it before I went to bed and have been going non-stop all morning!)

Now...Tuesday gratitudes
* That things are finally slowing down, and issues are getting resolved related to my dad's estate
* For my son, who is stepping up as the spokesman on my sister's and my behalf in a resolution zoom meeting we are scheduled to have tomorrow night
* The energy to attend two water aerobics classes this morning, and then do eight Olympic size laps afterwards!
* Treating myself to a sushi lunch afterward...and keeping it under control!
* Weight loss this week despite ongoing birthday celebrations.
* The awareness that I DO matter to a lot of people, as reflected in all the good wishes related to the annual marker

Poems are maps for getting lost in your heart where everyone can find you. Poems are momentary Sabbaths when eternity breaks in. These moments can heal the world.

Gratitude for a cool, quiet first day of June~~

~ feeling especially thankful for poets like Fred LaMotte, who speak to me deeply

~ happily drove (+/- two hours RT) into Little Rock to shop at Whole Foods yesterday afternoon

~ love Echoes of Panhala, FB poetry site of daily postings (today Fed LaMotte -- see below)

~ lots of wonderful fresh fruit to choose from again

~ arranged to have a loaf of the extra delicious Serenity Farms Multi-Grain Sour Dough Bread sliced at the bakery before delivery to Bell Urban Farms in Conway, where I'll pick it up Saturday (otherwise I slice thick and eat too much! lol)

Maha

Some say you are not your body.
I say your body is an ocean of stars
whose ancient light is just now reaching you.
I say the fiery dark abyss devouring time
is the well of your inhalation.
If you and God don’t rendezvous
in a crow-footed wrinkle, a liver spot,
the aching fallow fallen meadow,
flesh petals on a stem of thorns,
how will you taste the bloom and fade
of lips on the heavenly Christ Rose?

Come now, enter your patient skin
and use the faintest feather brush
of breath on bone to dust the mind away,
beyond astonishment, lost in nuclei.
Be floating pollen in a beam of what sees,
a glory of loam (I say you are) this body,
without descent, but risen from loss,
from yearning so deep below no god
could fall there, never having breathed
his sky into an atom of death.

Now you could become the black vacuum
at the core of all that whirls.
Through the crazed clarity in the window
of a quark, you could gaze
at photon moons in supernova molecules.
Stunned by your mortal magnificence,
you could become the silence who all along's
been listening to your prayers.

- Fred LaMotte -
Fred LaMotte is an interfaith chaplain and college instructor in World Religions who loves to walk barefoot in wet grass at midnight, un-naming the stars. He also enjoys gathering folks in circles to explore poetry and meditation. His blog is “Uradiance.”

Happy June All!

On this fist day of June, I continue to be blessed and am grateful for
