New to the group. Sleep helps reduce stress, but I rarely sleep more than 4-6 hours and always up in the night. Lately I doubled by Melatonin from 5mg to 10mg and have been sleeping 8 hours straight through! Good thing because we just added a hyper puppy to my "autistic kid, spouse with BPD, mom with dementia, running a business and a nonprofit simultaneously" stress filled life!!!

Well, on bad days, take 10mg of CBD. And meditate. Use Mindfulness techniques. Exercise and hug the cats, call a friend. Read a book or surf fbook. Watch movies. Play video games.

Today wasn't bad. I woke my Sparkpage up. Back to work now. But I'm glad you all are still here and fighting the good fight!

right now I just try and live with stress and do what ever I can to feel better. I don't know what kind of "men" are in charge of the opiate problems, they are idiots, I would like to think women might have have the sense to remember there will always be people like my son as well as people having surgeries that have always and will always require some pain relief!! They seem to think everybody is an idiot and not intelligent enuff to use pain killers properly and they also think every doctor can't prescribe properly and are harassing doctors and stopping them from doing their job. This is the gv't over reacting and gov't should not be telling doctors how to do their jobs as if they are all idiots. The govt has no right to interfere with my health, that is what my doctor is for!! I do have rights or did they change the constitution when I wasn't looking??!! So how do we citizens put a stop to this harassment ? I have a friend who fell off a roof and wrecked about everything, had surgery but is in constant pain all day every day. He has no choice but to take pain killers. What else can he do, he can't get a new body.
Well, enuff of this, unless somebody involved in this mess can turn this around the problem will get worse as more people are refused pain killers or they try and shove tramadol, useless, and others at people still leaving them in pain. Or all the stupid options being offered, yoga, meditation, etc. that will not help severe pain.

Captain Morgan, I'm a medical anthropologist and this has been a major concern for years--and it's getting worse, not better. There is a ton of literature out there on how poorly we manage pain because we fear addiction rather than doing what we should be doing and dealing with addiction directly. At first it was mostly a problem for people with chronic issues that cause pain, forcing people who had been functional to now live with debilitating pain, but now it's becoming a problem even for people who have had some kind of procedure (major dental work, surgery, etc.) to either be under-prescribed pain medication or not given any at all. And from what I can tell the laws regulating pain medication don't seem to recognize that some doctors (such as surgeons) are by definition of their job going to prescribe more pain medication than others, say general practitioners. I don't have a problem with emergency rooms etc. not giving out pain medication prescriptions, because there are people who will abuse the system. But doctors should be able to give medication to patients that they have an established relationship with--especially if they have a known cause of the pain (surgery, bulging disks, whatever). We know that pain management not only improves quality of life but it also improves healing. It is both appalling and ridiculous that we as a country handle pain medication so badly,

Things I do for stress relief--lately I've been listening a lot to a relaxing play list I put together.

You all should read my blog! STRESS!! I am furious my son was not given any pain pills because the dentist has been "leaned on" about giving pain pills. My son left that dentist after a tooth extraction of a large eye tooth and the dentist told him he probably needs a pain pill but because the dentist has been bothered about giving pain pills he gave my son nothing so my son left there swallowing blood and swelling in pain with nothing. The dentist said if you need some call but nobody answered the phone! Am I the only one that feels the gov't is over stepping it's authority when it it is stopping our doctors from treating us properly like we are all addicts.?? The Gov't has no right deciding what my doctor does what is right for me! I am so angry and have no ideas how to stop this.

Family problem last nite so started sleep off on the wrong track. Hard to get to a sound sleep when you feel frustrated and angry. That bell sounds like a good thing. Even Brandy came up on my bed with me. I have a blanket there just for her just in case she wants up, usually just in the mornings so I think the angry voices bothered her too. She always makes me feel better. Seems this morning things are quiet but the elephant is still in the room if you are familiar with that saying. It is 53 and clear and sunny so sunshine helps and we could walk but we have Alex yet and no way am I going to walk him. Nobody took the time to get him used to the head leash yet. He would be fine in a short time, just have to get used to the feel of the head leash.
I hope we both can get rid of the stresses/stress, not good to keep it with us. I will take time to clear my desk today, I tend to put it off too long. I am determined to enjoy this sunny day!! some stretches and exercises will help also plus a good mystery to have waiting.
Take care, Georgine emoticon emoticon need a bigger dog icon.

I have been under a lot of stress lately as well... I wonder if something like the mindfulness timer (it chimes a bell periodically during the day to remind you to stop for a moment and breathe/be.) would help.

I have had many stressors lately. The thing that helps me the most in the short run is to focus on the present moment and observe my breathing. I concentrate on slowing and evening out the breath and concerted muscle relaxation. It takes 5-10 minutes and it works pretty well. emoticon emoticon

Have the 3 year old in here so doing the best I can. Internet was out all day and I have a ton of posts to answer and delete. She is busy!
I never cared for the percolated coffee everybody drank but now with the new coffeemakers I do enjoy it with a little cream. Some of my friends are tea drinkers and I always have tea at my youngest daughters as she likes strong coffee, not me and the caffeine gives me the jitters. I drink a lot of water for my kidneys.
Yesterday was cold and cloudy and today warm, cloudy and humid, maybe a storm. We have the yellow lab, Alex, who comes with the 3 year old so he plays with my dog and they get exercise.
It seems a lot of us have issues to deal with. I am upping my walking a little at a time to get back to 8000 steps and do my back, knee, and neck exercises from PT plus icing my sciatica and tendon. All getting better but keeps me busy. My oldest granddaughter has the same thing you do in her feet.
Best I get moving, not good to sit with sciatica./ Have a great day and hope you have sunshine.

I never acquired a taste for coffee (all I can taste when I've tried, even when heavily sweetened etc., is the bitter) but I grew up drinking tea... which I guess is not very common in the US. So drinking tea has a familiarity to it as well as the ritual.

We are having gorgeous weather but my plantar faciitis flared up again, making walking painful. Maybe tomorrow I will go for a walk anyway This is my favorite time of year and I don't want to waste it inside..

Finally got brave and walked with Brandy for half an hour in spite of sciatica and swollen tendon and Brandy's shoulder. 2 vets cleared Brandy's shoulder, she has no pain in it so we limp off together. Walking with her is my all time favorite exercise and nice fall days make it even more special. Have a great day , no stress!

I never cared for tea as well as coffee but started drinking tea when I was nursing my babies , seems like a hundred years ago, I am 76 now. I learned to use tea bags or just leaves and to steep it. Nites I can't sleep I make tea. I read a lot so have a variety of tea as well as leaves. I have been thinking of relaxing on the patio while the days are nice. Not many people drink tea over coffee, I enjoy both. Too bad we all forget times when we did something special to relax. I don't use sugar or milk but when my allergies keep me up I add honey, lemon and cinnamon, helps. Have a great day, wonderful day here in northern Minnesota!!

I find tea incredibly relaxing--even when it isn't a "relaxing" tea (ie, something with lavender, chamomile, etc.) There is a ritual to heating up the water, preparing the leaves, etc. that I find soothing...and then sitting and getting that first hit of the rich scent, the heat of the drink in my hands and my throat... it's happy and peaceful and relaxing. It helps me get centered before my day really starts. When we first bought the house I would sit on the porch while I drank my first cup of tea... I keep forgetting to do that now. That made it even more relaxing and yet helped wake me up. Now I just tend to take the tea to my office and sit at my computer.

i keep reading about the teas that help so am planning to use my tea more often, especially when it gets colder but I can wait, no rush for colder. I agree on everybody being busy and stressed. I have several teams I joined for reasons and friends but it has been very hard to keep in touch with all of them. I am going to try to take it all a little at a time and learn not to blab, I see others just leave a sentence or two. One day at a time, one of my favorite teams i have neglected. No more blabbing!! emoticon

I think there are a lot of reasons why this team isn't more active, and the fact that so many of us have busy, stress-filled lives is one of them.

I think a mug of tea and a book may be my very favorite way to relax.

Surprised to see a post from this team. With all the stress in the world I have always wondered why this team is usually empty. Not sure the leader is here anymore either. Usually she and I were the only ones posting.
Words with friends is popular and a good thing tho I have never tried it. Walking outside is my favorite thing to do , with my chocolate lab. I have had to stop it, swollen tendon from 8000 steps a day, not a fun reward for effort. Then sciatica in the other leg so I am walking inn limited amounts.
My doctor said to have a glass of wine every day when I take my relaxation time to read and/or watch tv. I wait til about 2 or 3 after I do exercises and house stuff and then sit and relax and ice my tendon and back. Brandy has had her pal, yellow lab, staying with us so she gets exercise playing and running with him. So things are slowly coming back to whatever is normal.
Enjoy the game.

I have been having a terrible time with sleep, down to 2 or 3 hours some nites. Very frustrating and I sure don't feel rested the next morning. I do read but get tired of that when i want to sleep. Fitbit congratulated me tjhis morning for my 8 hours and I feel great!! Wish I knew why so many bad nites????

Puzzle games are good stress relievers for me because I find them in a way meditative--I have to concentrate on what I'm doing, which means I'm not worrying about other stuff.

Once again i joined the free 21 day yoga program and had been walking Brandy and shoveling so never did do it but they had a video last nite starting with the yoga so at least i have started. The new knee is still tender to kneel on but I may be able to use a pillow.. I thought I was in fairly good shape==Ha--that was a delusion. It is going to take me awhile to get my balance etc. but yoga is an excellent stress buster so I am going to do it til it is over on the 21st. Then she wants you to join but it isn't cheap and the way I fall by the wayside I am not sure I want to do that. Lots of stress with hubby in memory care and worry over finances so i need to keep doing things to relieve the stress. Very cold here now with a nasty wind so going out with brandy is a quick trip as she is holding her feet up. Looking forward to spring. Take care, Georgine

On weekends I go visit my daughter and her husband who lives an hours drive and we play I Spy with the older grandson while the 2 year old plays with his toy trucks. When its not too bad outside, I jog around the pine trees.

I play Criminal Case on my Ipad. It keeps you busy finding the appointed things on the screens so I have no time to stress about things and i enjoy finding out who the murderer is.

Sometimes I play video games. My husband knows it's been a rough day when he comes home and I tell him "I need to kill something." LOL

Drinking tea on my porch or deck, something I need to do more often. Just taking time to "be".

Siting in my chair with a good mystery with or without a glass of wine. Especially like it when the weather is bad and we can't walk.

I fence as part of the society for creative anachronism, so it's not the same as modern fencing--good for me, as I don't know that my knee/hip could handle modern fencing's lunges. It is however a great stress releas--followed up by hanging out with friends.

Before I started fencing, I danced with the SCA for years--and I jokingly called it my stress relief. I didn't realize until I hurt my hip and had to stop dancing how true that really was. I still haven't gotten back into dancing, but I fence, and it helps too.
