I am on this team to find that magical balance between being a total slug and a neurotic fool when it comes to being organized. I had a mom whose floors you could serve dinner on and a dad who liked his house to be as clean as his operating room. I KNOW they were over the top, but I am not sure by how much. I would love to be able to walk through my house without seeing it as one long journey through "things I really should do/clean/organize."

I love to trade good ideas with others and this is a great place for that.

A great group of folks!

Im a closeted clean freak / organizer. Its hard to be one in this house because I live with a "almost" hoarder and slob. I hate to clean/organize an area and then have it trashed or filled with junk the next day. Also I can get some helpful ideas here

Being organized = a less stressful time at home.

Since the majority of my time in the evening after work is spent in rehearsals for choir/musicals etc, my room/house becomes a DISASTER zone. I need a clean room/house to function properly! It's hard to get a decent nights sleep when your bed is covered with clean laundry from a week ago. I don't focus as well, and everytime I come home, I sigh.

I'd like to learn more ways of orgnazing my life and my home.

I am on this team because I want to stop wasting so much time because I am not organized. Besides, I just moved in an apartment twice smaller than the previous one so I need to get things organized to save space.

Once I retired from full time work, I thought "I really need to get organized" . It is 2+ years later, and just in the past two months, it has begun to happen. I was looking at a sparkfriend's sparkpage and saw this team listed and checked it out. I saw that it was active, read parts of some of the threads, and thought I could do this...and I have been!

My name is Tammy and I live in SW Missouri.

I joined because I feel like becoming healthy also entails organizing my life, including my home. I need to find peace with myself and my surroundings.

I'm on this team because I need help. At home I don't have a place for everything and there is a lot of clutter. I'm hoping to get this under control and I am seeing some progress.

I have come back to this team because since I was last here, I've moved out of my parents' home into my own place (where I'm renting with a flatmate). It's a whole new set of routines and a clean slate in a lot of ways. But my paperwork is taking over the world at home. I have to find some ways to get into a routine of putting some stuff away every day!

(Also, I need to find a better filing system than "an archive box which has replaced my old filing cabinet drawer, since I now don't have a filing cabinet". Hm.)

Yes, I learned so much from Flylady. I lived at near hoarding level for many years. The main floor of my home is decluttered and clean. This summer I am working on the upstairs and doing some home improvement projects. The idea of "good enough" and getting over perfectionism were invaluable. The other idea she helped me with so much was that "You can't organize clutter you have to get rid of it!" Many of her emails are repetitive I agree. I have no problem deleting them unopened unless I am in the mood to read them or the subject interests me.

i probably didn't give it enough time. it over whelmed me right away and I "shut down". This team seems to be the right balance for me. enough challenges, but not too many that I shut down.

I'm told it is possible to manage the subscription. I haven't figured that out yet. What I do is to just delete them unread. No muss, no fuss. I just use the flight plan.

Welcome aboard! I would suggest looking at flylady's website if you are a beginning organizer. She is totally nonjudgemental and really helps. I'll attach the link. That being said, welcome aboard! We are glad you are here. Look through some of the threads for other ideas. flylady.net/

I joined because my house feels like my mind...very cluttered. My daughters and I love to roams Staples and Target and ogle over organization stuff. We love it, but can't seem to wrap our minds around it.

So, I'm hoping for simple tips and the "duh" moments to help day by day clear both the mind and house.

Tha't why I'm here.

I joined this team because I want a peaceful home that welcomes me and my family when we walk in the door, to remind me to keep up the areas that I do have decluttered, and because with my Baby Girl (1 yr old grandaughter) walking now I want her to have a clear field to travel.

why are you on this team?
Well someone from this team commented on one of my blogs. I went to see her sparkpage and saw she was on this team. I LOVE organizing!!! My family says I'm obsessed. I wish I could do a job where I help others with cleaning / organizing! have done it for friends and family, but...

Also because I LOVE SparkPeople and it's always good to hear from others, with the same interest and help each other out!

Have a blessed day...

Hi friends! I just found an idea for Valentines Day! The "mart" store has strawberry shaped marshmellows with red gel inside for $1. I got a number of bags. Went to $ store and got pretty Valentine containers to put them in. Voila! Beautiful gifts for $2! I plan to dip a few in chocolate much like fresh berries for my aides at work.

I'm here to learn what I don't know, and contribute what I do know. I'm a pretty organized person already, but I'm really cheap too, so if there's a less expensive way to stay orderly, I'm all for it!

this is a great question and I relate by weight problem to having an un-organized life. I'm not in control of things and that includes eating and exercise.
I'm here to chat with others and get motivated to get organized in all areas of my life.
I'm not looking for perfection.......just feeling more organized.

One of the best things I got our of Julie Morgenstern's Organizing From the Inside Out was about finding homes for things. I can't put something away if it doesn't have a home. Several things may need to be determined or decided, such as do I really want/need to have it? (Sometimes for how long? is a good question to ask.) Also where do I use it, how often do I use it, or even what is its main function?

I often get an 'Ahhh' feeling when I find the right place for one of my poor little homeless possessions--one that's convenient to where and when I need it, so that I know where it goes, and I know where to find it when I need it next.

Don't know if this speaks to anybody else, but I thought I would offer it.

A lot of great ideas here.

Marsha, the headache although less painful is still there, right behind my eyes.

And this says it all "Like you, I tried to do it all at once and would get frustrated when I had moved on to the next area only to turn around and find that the one I had just finished was now cluttered from stuff from the area I was currently working on." This is so frustrating and the story of my life. I just keep moving it here and there and back again.

I wish I had enough room so that I could work on something and if I don't finish it, leave it there til I can come back. I have no room to work (I just have my bedroom so to speak), so everything that isn't dealt with goes back into a pile and I have to start over the next time.

WOW! I really needed this post! It was so funny because I signed up for this team when I joined SP and never visited the page. (I am not an organized person but want desperately to get there.) As I was looking at my teams I asked myself if I belong here, since I am not yet organized. And I find this post, so here it goes.

I joined this team for above mentioned reasons of wanting to become more organized. (especially with mail!! It's everywhere!!!) More importantly I joined this team for the same reason I joined SP. I was beginning to feel like DH and I were the "fat & sloppy" couple out of our group of friends.
There are 6 of us (3 couples) and the other two girls are BIG neat freaks who have their lives all mapped out with neat and clean homes. I noticed that the group wasn't ever hanging out at our house, and it wasn't because I wasn't offering.... uh oh. So here is to life changes for the better.

(we have since done small updates, paint etc, and are seeing improvements)

Oh do I know where you are coming from... Recently, I was lucky enough to have someone work with me to get me started. Like you, I tried to do it all at once and would get frustrated when I had moved on to the next area only to turn around and find that the one I had just finished was now cluttered from stuff from the area I was currently working on... I would get so frustrated, cry and plain give up..

Little steps, worked on one area, sort by keep, maybe, give away and throw away. Certain items are in a neat pile as "goals". When the area is ready for them they will go there, and not before. Kind of incentive to keep going. I am trying and taking small steps each weekend. My hours during the week leave no free time for home.

Your headache may be due to stress from the frustration and feeling helpless when it comes to getting it organized as fast as you want...

Hope your day gets better,

Marsha

I have both physical and mental obstacles right now to everything in my life. I am probably trying to do too much at one time. Instead of baby steps I think I am taking elephant steps and tripping over my own feet. I know I want instant gratification and get frustrated and quit when that doesn't happen. I sabotage myself. I need sleep, to eat right and to get rid of this tremendous headache that I have had all day. It hurts so bad I can't think. A friend told me to do just one thing a day. Such a simple goal and most days I can't even manage that.

Many of us have been where you are, Terri! In fact just 2 days ago I was so down about my clutter that I put out a plea for support on all my teams. My Spark Friends came through, and I'm back to taking my little baby steps--which will lead to change, I know. Just like I am shedding the pounds *slowly*, so too can I whittle away at my junk and clutter while I build better habits, so as not to keep recreating the same patterns and the same messes.

For me, the weight loss and decluttering go hand in hand with therapy and meditation. As somebody else said, our outsides--our bodies and homes--are reflections of our thinking and how we see ourselves. As with many others, I know that thinking has been affected by trauma in the past. But I can change my thoughts and beliefs, I can love myself and see myself as worthy of a beautiful, well-ordered, and nurturing home, and I can learn the skills and habits to help me get there--with a *lot* of help from my friends!

Hang in there, and emoticon

I am always looking for tips and suggestions on how to do it BETTER. My house may be neat and tidy, but with a husband who grew up in a nearly OCD household . . .you always see room for improvement.

I believe there are links between our internal (psychological/emotional) and external environments. As I experience the slow process of transforming my habits and my body, I'm trying to make parallel changes in my home and surroundings. I'm hoping that changes in each one will make changes in the other easier.

I think the way to go with doing the house is baby steps, just like changing your healthy living habits. so today I'm trying take care of one small thing at a time and be happy with what I get done there

I知 here because I知 totally tired of the chaos I live in. Both internally and externally. I壇 like to be able to have someone come over. I知 afraid someone will come and I壇 be totally ashamed. Not only the clutter but the uncleanliness. I feel like a failure. I know it痴 not lazy, which was what I used to think. I start to do something and am almost immediately overwhelmed. Where do I put this? How do I do this? Because it has to be perfectly done, of course. It値l be helpful to be with people who struggle the same way I do. I知 making progress in my lifestyle changes concerning my weight, so I think I can do the same thing with a lifestyle change concerning my home.

I read the first third to half the postings, then the last few, before deciding to share my story. We really do run the gamut here! I had assumed I would mostly find folks like me for whom organizing is a huge and painful struggle, not those who find it easy.

I'm curious whether others in the I'm too ashamed to have anybody over, I hate the way I live camp also have abuse in their backgrounds. The therapist community, and many survivors, are aware of the frequent link between abuse and issues with weight. And I remember hearing years ago on the FlyLady site that many of her subscribers who wage the war against clutter are also fighting excess pounds. I suspect that many of us who learned early on that we had no control over our bodies and our lives, find as adults, that our homes seem out of control.

Still, no matter the root cause of my clutter and disorganization, I passionately desire to feel free and comfortable in my own home. I deserve to live in a beautiful, welcoming, peaceful and nurturing environment. (As do we all!) And that is what I choose--with a LOT of help from my friends and teammates--to create for myself!

So that's why I'm here: to learn new habits, pick up helpful tips and strategies, to receive and lend encouragement and support in taking all those eeny-weeny baby-steps that will lead to a functional, inviting home in which I can feel pride.

Blessed Be, Amanda

Oh funny arewethairyet mentioned how she's viewed at work - me too! I'm considered the organizational freak at work, my desk is totally organized and I do all of the organizing of projects and such!

I'm sure we'd be fired if we ever let our workplaces get to be like our homes. It's hard to work all day and then have any energy for home at night so the organizing all just comes out at work, I guess.

I'm here because life has pretty much become an unending battle of struggling with the things I need to do...go to work, walk the dog, cook the meals, do the laundry, take care of the pets/the husband, get in an adequate amount of exercise..and then one day I realized there wasn't any time for the things that I love to do.
Yes, I'm one of those who flies into a panic when company is coming...and by the time the house is "clean enough" I'm too tired to enjoy the company.
Yes I'm one of those with countless unfinished projects stashed around the house....somewhere.
Yes I'm one of those who's "collections" tend to take over everything.
Yes I turn down offers to do something "fun" because I have too many "havetados"..that of course I don't do, because its so out of control I can't get anything done.
So my goal for the year is to start trying to find some kind of balance, not spend all my time doing drudgework and getting back to doing some of the things that I truly love to do. I'm hoping this group will help.
Funny thing is that at work, I'm known for my high levels of organization and neatness and my ability to multi task...just seems to desert me once I walk in my own door, haha!

I am here because decluttering and organizing my itty bitty apartment is my number one task priority right now. I am about 1/3rd of the way done with my bedroom right now and my son's bedroom is next. We can't even sleep in our rooms! I want us to be able to sleep in our own rooms again, to be able to have people over, and I want my life to be much easier as it will be when finding something takes seconds rather than weeks. Being organized means more time for the good stuff and as a single working mother, I could use some good stuff.

I joined this team because I am tired of living in chaos. It creeps into every area of my life! I want to live in a home that I can be proud of. I want to be able to invite people over, instead of being in a panic at the thought that someone will show up and want to come inside my home! I want/need to set a good example for my children, unfortunately their rooms are as cluttered as mine. These are just a few reasons that quickly come to mind.

I joined because I have struggled with organization my whole life I have adhd not diagnosed until I was a adult I did terrible in school I would work so hard on my homework get it done finally and then I would lose it so I gave up on homework it was a waste I tried so hard and got a zero I never finished highschool than I started having kids I didn't know how to keep house I didn't even know how to cook and all of sudden I was a single mom with 3 little kids to take care of I learned how to cook because we got hungry and I coulnt afford to eat takeout all the time but keeping the house clean was another story I would have to have family members come over once in a while to help me clean/organize this went on for years I was so discouraged and I felt bad that I had to get help so much and than it would get out of hand again than I was diagnosed got treatment for adhd and now things are better I still struggle but I do most of it on my own now and its far from perfact but if you look at my house now and 7 or 8 yrs ago its way better and I'm better and I strive every day to find more tools that work for me and this I hope is going to be another for me

I feel this is the place for me. I loved organization and can organize when I set my mind to it, but for some reason it has been years since I have gotten my home organized! Hoping to accomplish more by giving and receiving support from others here that may be somewhat like me. No longer can I stand the clutter I have allowed to accumulate!

I'm on this team because the clutter has a way of creeping in until I feel overwhelmed. Then I just pretend not to see it for a while. That strategy really isn't working to my satisfaction, so here I am. I'm cleaning out the extra room by the garage right now. Reading everyone's posts got me motivated!

I hear that pink. I'm a former hoarder who is in the process of clearing away the "debris." It is so frustrating when something is moved and a "cleared" area get clutter on it.

Yesterday I practically had a panic attack because I'm redoing a bedroom. When I took the stuff out of the bedroom it overfilled the "junk" room. Sigh!

We still do good work and when it is time, we will finish. We just need to do it 15 minutes at a time.

Have you been to flylady's website? Her ideas have really helped me a lot. Glad you are here, Pink!

this house is a mess. i try to organize things and then my aunt makes a mess. my grandma moved in with us last fall and she is really close to becoming a hoarder. ive always likes organization but im not the crazy perfection type but in a small way i wish i was. i want to make this house clean and organized so that i'll be able to enjoy the kitchen so i can cook healthy meals. also having a clean house maked you less stressed and trying to eat right and exercise is already stressful enough.

I've just joined this team because not only do I need to get my body organized, I need to re-gain my organizational skills. I use to get rid of things - now I think I just might need them. I use to stay on track- got through my lists and then some. Now, I putz around and get off track and the end of the day comes and I've only crossed a couple of things off my list. Sure I've gotten older - but that's no excuse. I need to take control - not only of my weight, but of my time and my space.

I joined this team as lately I have felt overwhelmed by life in general. I seen this team on a friend's sparkpage and after reviewing the threads and reading some of the comments, I felt it was what I needed to get back in control and put some order into my daily routine of working outside the home, social activities and keeping my home clutter free, plus finding a Sparkpeople routine to keep me on track.

I'm here to keep my organizing goal in perspective. I feel a lot of the ideas on here seem to be geared towards people who are mostly organized already, and just need 'reminders' of things they could/should do.

I'm still working towards getting 'mostly organzied'. I use FlyLady for that, but I view this team as my end-goal, of where I would like to be, and watching the threads, suggestions, and ideas gives me things to keep in mind and think about for when I DO get some basics under control (I'm heading that way - slowly... but making progress!)

I joined because sometimes I feel like I'm the only one that doesn't have an organized house/ life. My friends and sister seem to have clean homes I don't look in their closets and I can't afford a house cleaner like a few of my friends, but at least here I feel like others are trying like I am to get things organized.

I didn't know that there was any other way to sort the clothes - pants by colour, shirts by colour, jackets by colour (black), knitwear by colour, underwear by category - bra, cami, panties, sox and stockings - each has its own section
Just makes it so much easier for me to find my stuff!

Also neat because the lengths are much the same - like a shop - and it's easy to see if anything is missing (in the laundry basket or machine)

I am actually pretty organized, but there is always room for improvement. I'm like the person who said she joined the team because of the picture of the colored tank tops. I love that picture, too. I frequently organize my closet by color. OK, I know I'm a little OCD, but I love the way it looks.

I am on this team because my home is too cluttered and I could use some tips and inspiration to work on getting it decluttered and organized. I may not post much myself (mainly because I'm ashamed at how little I've done to get organized lately), but I read most of what's posted here. It's great to read different ideas and perspectives!

When I let things get cluttered around my house I don't feel as happy about my space, and it's not as pleasant to cook and eat healthfully because the kitchen gets cluttered. It just seems like junk around the house contributes to me having less energy and positivity.

Andrea could be speaking for me, too - "I am on this team because I want to learn organizational techniques, motivation, support and ideas. My house is a mess, too many things in a small space. I start a lot of projects and do not finish them, feeling overwhelm, bottom line I need a lot of help in organizing my house..." - that's it. That's the story of my life.

I like to do the challenges and I like what others have to write. I'm lazy by nature and sometimes my time is so limited that I need that one little push and to be accountable. The last few months at work have left me with no energy what's so ever and then I took a 15 hour (yes, hour) nap and now I'm ready to get back to the challenges of this team. I like the camaraderie also.

I joined the team to help me organize my home so I can organize my mind too. I have picked up some wonderful ideas about culling my junk and how to really put the stuff I love to it's full use. I think the hints and the monthly suggestions have helped me be more organized in my attempt to tame my clutter.
I'm a work in progress.
Thanks!

I am a very disorganized soul by nature, and I want to change this. The team is a nice place to get ideas, as well as seeing I am not alone in some of the areas I struggle with. I work full time, try to maintain a house and yard, as well as dealing with several medical issues that eat up a lot of my time. This results in me being pulled in several directions when I do get to work on the house and I find this team and ones like it help me focus on a direction without spending too much time thinking about which item I should choose to work on.

I am here because I LOVE the picture of the colored t-shirts. It's something to aspire to -- clean house, tiny t-shirts, etc. :)

When I am cleaning or organizing, I am doing it by myself. I like getting ideas and motivation from the team.

I came here because I was looking for storage ideas but ended up realising I don't do too badly anyway. However, it's good to see other people's ideas, I have made friends and sometimes being "accountable" has been a great help. If I can't write about some worthwhile task achieved then I realise I have been goofing off in this area - and frequently that coincides with eating, socialising, and general life because I don't feel this Team is only about cleanliness and tidiness around the house. I think it is also about fulfilling our promises to ourselves and others, trying to overcome a lifetime of procrastinating and crisis-management and coping without stress.

For me, the step by step process has been a great help - and all the Teams I belong to have been of tremendous help in many ways

So - thanx guys! Even if I am not always on the message boards, I do stay in touch with Friends I have made thru the Team

I am on this team because I want to learn organizational techniques, motivation, support and ideas. My house is a mess, too many things in a small space. I start a lot of projects a do not finish them, feeling overwhelm, bottom line I need a lot of help in organizing my house, so I will not eat over it and the anxiety it causes me.

There's nothing wrong with using the word "diet". It comes from the Greek word "diaita", meaning way of life. So to lose weight and keep it off we need to change our way of life.

I am already an organized soul. I am good with organizational skills and time management. When I saw this team on another page, I thought I might be able to help others.

I realized after a few days on this team that people have different ideas of what being organized is. Some believe that it means color coding your closet and arranging storage alphabetically. Some, like myself, believe that being organized means finding what you need, when you need.

I am also interested in hearing why other came to and stayed with this team. I am also interested in hearing how this team might have helped with reaching goals.

Hi Knuckles,

I joined this team when I promised myself that there was a better way to run my home. I am a twice widowed special education teacher. I lost 230 pounds six years ago and spend a lot of energy maintaining the loss. I own a house (with the bank, lol)so have all cleaning and maintenance issues to deal with along with cooking to maintain my weight loss.

I belong to this team and to flylady peace is mine because I need to be with like minded people for ideas and support.

Have a great day!

and yes I am being serious. I have been doing alot of thinking about this the last several days, trying to figure out what it is that I want to get out of being on this team.

For me, I'm not looking for a totally spotless/organized house. I am a fairly organized person to begin with. but with all the hats I have to wear (primary care giver for severely disabled adult son, primary provider for household etc etc) I find I often let the daily household stuff slide, which can lead to "disaster areas" in the house, office, yard and garage. so it is great to get other ideas on how people manage things and to get motivation for getting stuff done. but I do have to watch myself that I don't get overwhelmed by "projects"

so now I am curious why other people joined the team and what they are getting out of being here.
