It's true, we eat differently when there is company around.

I was out and about for 5 hours today. I had a long list, but didn't get to all of it because I decided to visit some of the houses in my old township that were having garage sales. There were almost 70 sales in the township-wide offering. They do this every summer.
After buying a few things, I refilled 12 water jugs and did a little grocery shopping. I got home in time to make DH dinner (I wasn't hungry). I read for a while until DH and I watched a couple episodes of _The Chosen_.

Sorry to have dropped out for a few days - I probably won't do FB - I have an account that I never use. Sounds like there is a 5% challenge FB group started. They're also checking out My Fitness Pal. It's been crazy busy here trying to get everything cleaned and ready inside and outside. Now I'm down to trying to figure out the food. My sons will do the grilling of whatever they choose to buy -- but I'm working on getting fruit salad, dessert, etc together. Our guest asked to stay an extra day - and of course I said yes that's fine...lol. just wasn't counting on an extra day of meals and trying to figure out something to entertain her with. I have been feeling a bit better - it's not so hard to breathe now so my mood has improved a bit. I'll be glad when this is all over. Looming over me is my annual physical this coming week with a new doctor - the one I like retired in Dec and this new one is a member of the practice. I'm a bit nervous about that and hate that my food and exercise routine is all messed up. Don't want to go in and have bloodwork done that reflects all the company food and lack of activity.

edited because I've actually been doing a lot of activity, but won't be able to do my formal exercise the next few days...lol. It improves my mood considerable when I'm able to get workouts in.

Work is SO BUSY right now. I have overlapping meetings scheduled from 9-4. The bonus is that some are just listening meetings.

Have a wonderful, relaxing vacation. emoticon

DH said a long time friend was coming over to pick him up to see a tile job elsewhere. I know he will bring him in the house and show him through, so I have been picking up anything that is out.

DH finally got garden soil and amendments last evening, so the garden is finally in. emoticon I think it rained a little last night. Thank you, Mother Nature. emoticon

I started the day emptying the DW and washing 2 loads of bedding. Sheets are back on and now I'm working on passwords. Google had saved some that I had forgotten, so I'm glad to find them again.
DH just came home with loads of soil, manure (ugh, I thought he was bringing peat moss), etc. for the garden.
I did a yoga workout last night and it prompted me to clean out the area with weights, fitness videos, straps, etc. Have to finish that.

I agree Paula! I've really enjoyed the friendships and forums that I've been a part of.

My facebook name is Gretchen Forsht Seyfried if anyone would like to connect there.

Today, I had a full day of meetings at work! They all went well, but were stacked one right after another.

Today is my 25th wedding anniversary. We'll find time to celebrate another evening. Tonight, my oldest daughter is spending the night at a friends house and the youngest is having two friends spend the night.

Paula - hope you feel better!

Take care everyone!

emoticon Guess by now probably everyone has heard about SP closing down in August. I knew there was not a lot of new content and maintenance being done on the site and I understand why they're doing it, but I'm still sad. I've been looking for alternate nutrition trackers - think I found one I can work with at My Net Diary. There will be no way to duplicate the friend experience here on SP.

I'm dragging - trying to do what I can for the company coming this weekend. Can't seem to shake this cold, chest tightness etc. Just feel like crawling into bed and reading.

Thanks for the birthday messages!

Glad to hear your Y is opening up for some extended times. Enjoy your strength class.

Today, I'm working 1/2 day and then have a doctors appointment this afternoon. Tonight we'll take my daughter to karate and likely hang out at the Barnes and Noble cafe. It's usually a nice time for my husband and I to catch up.

emoticon Happy Birthday, Gretchen!

Today I made it into town for yet another swim at the Y. It was nice, as usual. Again, a lot of little things at home. We're getting lots of cucumbers and squash now so I've been busy with that. Great news - starting Saturday the Y is extending Saturday hours and opening on Sundays again from 1 to 5. I have really missed my Sunday afternoon swims. I'm also going to do something new tomorrow and go to a strength class at noon. There aren't many classes on offer now that appeal to me, or that I can't do better at home. I know this instructor and kind of know what the class will be like. It will be heavy dumbbells, fewer repetitions, and she'll probably do the same moves every week. It will be interesting to see If any of my old buddies are there. I had to stop and think what to wear tomorrow -- my workout capris, etc.

We picked up the kids at the airport yesterday morning and I spent the rest of the day trying to get my book read. Didn't manage it, so I just renewed it today.
After physical therapy I ran a couple errands, then got home in time to reheat our leftovers from Bravo.

Sounds like a nice Memorial Day for your family, Gretchen.

Yesterday I had PT, since most things like that were closed for the holiday. I'm glad, because I got to see my original therapist who did my evaluation. I like him so much and, sadly, it was his last day as he now has a full-time position in a place much closer to his home. Good for him!

DH and I took the Z4 to Bravo for dinner, then he checked out a business he was thinking about applying to for a part-time job. Too far to drive he decided. Then we met a contractor at the rental house, which has sold, but needs a couple fixes before the walk-through today.

Today was back to the grind!

We had a fun day yesterday as a family. Breakfast, checking out pavilions for graduation party next year, putt-putt, and lunch as a family. We got back and it was nice so I spent some time reading on the deck. It was a great day!

Did a little work in the yard.
DH and I took the Z4 out for a quick burger for lunch. After the yard work, we went out again (top down in this lovely weather, don't you know) to see 400 flags in a nearby cemetery. It was about 6, no where near sundown, but they had taken them down by the time we got there. Very disappointing. We did visit a friend's grave when we got there. Hard to believe he died 15 years ago at the age of 56.

Gretchen - nursing is a really good choice - great that she will be close enough to visit!

Pat - I did the live stream as well - I notice I'm the only one watching the past few Sundays, but I sure do enjoy being able to watch from here. One of these days I must go back in person. I've always gotten kind of a claustrophobic feeling from having to sit in a group of people, but I can live with it. I'm so hyper aware of coughing and clearing my throat these days, and I seem to have a seasonal frog emoticon in my throat most days lately....lol.

I've done some straightening in the craft/computer room, and now it's time to go in and make lunch.

I still have some laundry from yesterday to put away. I paid a few bills this morning and my stomach is grumbling, so I will have some breakfast before the church's live stream starts.

Later I will sort out some papers and do my PT again.

@PAULALALALA - It's really been her only choice since the beginning. They have a really well ranked nursing program which is what she's interested in pursuing. Kent is about 75-90 minutes from us depending on the route and traffic.

Today, we will head to church for our pastor's last Sunday. She's taking a few weeks off between appointments. After church, we'll likely grab a bite to eat and then my oldest has to go to work. I don't have any other big plans - just some stuff around the house like laundry, read, grocery list, Sam's order.

Take care...Hope you all have a great day!

I had planned to read--finished the first library book, started the second, but DH needed some editing of the password document and brought out the laundry. I did it all -- five loads. We watched a couple episodes of _Chosen_ and I completed my PT exercises while watching.

Gretchen - sounds like a nice trip you and your daughter had, and that her decision is almost made to go to Kent State. Is it the closest of her choices?

Piddling around today with my craft room. DH and I did get out briefly to move a couple plants around that are either getting too much, or not enough sun.

Hi all, my oldest daughter and I got up this morning and drove to Kent State University for the first "official" college visit. It went well except that it was pouring and super windy. Still her top choice. We went to lunch and got home about 2:30. I pretty much wasted the rest of the afternoon warming up under the covers, petting the dog. We (my husband, daughter and I) discussed the visit.

Now we have my youngest at her karate class and my husband and I are sitting in the Barnes & Noble cafe across the street. It was pretty full this evening. Good to see things perking back up.

Not sure what tomorrow will bring. It's still supposed to be cold and rainy. Hope you both enjoy your weekend! Take care...

Gretchen - that's really neat that you'll still get to see your preacher sometimes. That was a long time she was at your church!

Pat - glad you got to take it easier today than you have been lately. Isn't that a nice feeling to be on your own and reading a pleasurable book. emoticon

I'm in now, safe and sound. The rain has been unbelievable. Not my favorite driving at all - especially with lightning and thunder happening quite frequently during my town odyssey. I did enjoy my swim at the Y, and also went to Aldi to pick up a watermelon and a few other items. I had planned to go to the larger HEB that has everything I have on my list, but Aldi is so nice and quick - less hassle...and what they do have -- I like. Had a few books to turn in at the library, but that got put off. They're not due yet and I didn't want to get them soaked.

After PT, I bought some groceries at Aldi.
Came home and made burgers, then read or watched TV the rest of the night. I watched a few of the episodes on PBS about the Norwegian Princess Martha that I had on the DVR.

This morning I slept in till almost 9. How lovely. Tidied the upstairs and made scrambled eggs.
I need to pay a bill and pick up a suit from the dry cleaners, but beyond that, I just plan to read.

Wow! You ladies had busy days!

I was able to get a mid-week laundry cycle done so we don't have so much laundry over the holiday weekend.

@PAULALALALA - Yes, the Methodist church and its itinerant pastor approach can be challenging. Our pastor was with us for 10 years so she's going to be missed. We were her first church that she was on her own. Our family starting attending about 3 months after she started so we've done a lot of life together. Thankful for her friendship and her new church/home is close to where I work, so we'll be able to maintain our friendship.

Hope you all have a great holiday weekend and I'll catch you later!

I am almost at the end of the Brother Cadfael mystery series. I think this one is third from the end. They follow the conflict between King Stephen and Queen Maude in Britain during the twelfth century in the background of each plot. I can only imagine reading a 1000-page book. I think 600 was my longest.

I woke up before the 5 o'clock trash truck. The DW has been emptied. The bedding has been washed. The mattress pad is back on and I'm waiting for the sheets to dry. DH has set out to the memorial where the pastor is buried. They are still adding flowers. The young man who takes care of landscaping has his first anniversary today, so DH is trading vehicles with him. He will be driving with his wife in the Z4 down to Amish country. I hope it warms up enough so they can put down the roof. It'll be a fun ride for them.
After PT at one, I plan to relax and read my book. The house is clean, no one is coming for dinner, and I can just have sandwiches with the leftover chicken.

I'm reading a mystery, too - "Winterkill" by C. j. Box. A member of another team got me started on the series about a game warden in Wyoming. Those James Michener books can be looooooong....lol. I was reading "The Source" back in 1986 after the birth of my first child -- and my maternal hormones had definitely kicked in -- because I got to the part about child sacrifice and it upset me so terribly I had to quit reading.

Our pastor has been with us about 6 years now - she's been a great fit for the small community, and hopefully she'll be able to stick around for quite awhile. The Methodist church seems to move pastors frequently sometimes, so it's been really nice having her for so long.

Got my Prolia injection this morning -- still don't understand why I have to check into the hospital infusion unit to get a subcutaneous shot - but that's the way they do it. The Y is a couple blocks from the hospital complex, so that was my next stop - a very nice swim in the competition pool. Then on to Aldi and the library. The groceries are all featuring Memorial day food. We have no plans here for Monday.

So sorry for your loss. Sounds like your pastor lived quite a life. Glad that you were able to celebrate a life well lived.

What book are you reading now? I just finished American Dirt by Jeannine Cummins. Over the summer our book club at church takes the summer off from meeting, but read a LONG book. They are reading The Covenant by James Michener. It's over 1,000 pages. I'm struggling to decide if I'm going to read or not. It would be a stretch book for me which is great, but there are so many other books that I could read in that time. Hmm, need to decide.

Today is just work. I don't have anywhere else that I need to be. I may try to empty our hamper and do a few small loads of laundry.

It's supposed to storm here later and be dreary most of the day. Hope you all have a great one!

We said goodbye to our pastor, too, but it was at a funeral Sunday. He was almost 100 and had lived a life sacrificed to the work of God. I'm glad he's now in Heaven, meeting his loved ones and many of the people he showed the way of salvation.

Today was the day the cleaning people came. My house is back in order, I've had a good nap, an excellent salmon dinner, and read a good bit in my new book.

Even though I went to sleep after midnight, I was up at 6. I still have a good bit of seasonal clothing to switch, but I made a bit of a dent in it this morning. I also put away the laundry from the three loads I got done last night.
DH managed to go to bed much earlier and sleep much later than I did. Now I'm tired again. We have a funeral at noon for our pastor. We will have no other services today. Afterward a friend from out of town will go with us out to dinner. We went out to dinner at 7 with the couple I made the food for. I hope they eat most of it today, but someone else will probably take them out.

Maybe this afternoon I can wash the bathroom walls so DH can paint tomorrow. Wonder if that chore will every be done. We're into week three.

Pat - your assortment sounds delicious! I'm sure they'll enjoy it. emoticon

Since I missed yesterday, I got in early to the Y and then to the grocery. It was past 11 when I got home and then the rain poured down. 1" in about an hour. It was a nice day to finish a book, and to catch an episode of a series on Prime DH and I have been watching. After my afternoon coffee, I spent a couple hours outdoors first in the garden, then in the greenhouse that I've set up shop in. We devised a tarp cover for half of it so it won't be unbearably hot. I have a bunch of cinder blocks and a ton of broken plates etc. that both my Mom and I have been saving for years. I thought it would be fun to do mosaics on some of the cinder blocks that I use to set potted plants on in the front of the house. They will be very amateurish I'm sure - but who cares? It's kind of fun to try to make the pieces fit together.

Yesterday I spent a good chunk of hours making snack food for an out-of-state couple who would be staying in a hotel room for part of the weekend. I really didn't know what they would like, so I made banana nut bread, spinach dip, veggie dip, deviled eggs, minted iced tea and sandwiches. Bought her diet Coke and got some fresh fruit. I can only hope it will tide them over.

After calling hours I came home and started putting things back in the bathroom, painted or not. DH will just have to put up plastic.

Today was a really productive day at work. I've been off the past couple of Fridays and have really missed the quiet work time that I usually have in the afternoon. It was great!

My daughter has some friends over tonight so I've also been able to just crank through some additional tasks that have just been sitting there cluttering up my TO DO list.

Have a great one!

The PT was enjoyable--at least the part about being in the water. Returning home, I experienced delayed onset muscle soreness. OY! The parts that I wasn't receiving PT for were hurting. My entire lower left leg and upper right thigh were painful.

I have started the seasonal clothing exchange, since I can only hope the freak snow we got on Mother's Day was just that -- a freak occurrence. I also need to wash the walls before DH paints, but I'm really not up for that. He wants the stuff in the dining room put back before he paints. Not what I would call a good idea.

PT in the pool sounds nice! I've done a lot of painting, but have never painted a ceiling -- that sounds like a challenge. Unfortunately, when we built in "85, popcorn was pretty standard for ceilings....sure don't like it now! When we had our den added on to, we had it scraped and re-textured to match the new addition. What a job - definitely glad to have that done by professionals.

The women's dressing room/showers at the Y has always had a problem with people that shouldn't be in there. There are signs everywhere saying that no-one under 18 should be in there - even if they're with their parent. There are family dressing rooms with showers just as conveniently located. It used to be a real problem with the high school swim team. Many of the "mature" women were teachers or administrators and were uncomfortable with the girls they dealt with being in there. I think one girl secretly took a picture on her phone of one of the undressed ladies (her teacher) and was sharing it at school. I also had a curtain ripped open in an individual stall I was changing in -- supposedly the girl thought the room was empty -- and she screamed loudly when she saw me. Very unsettling to have something like that happen when you're standing there naked. emoticon Her friends were embarrassed and apologized to me, but she apparently was traumatized. They kept trying to explain to her that if a curtain is closed in a stall, that's a sign that it is occupied and if in doubt, that she should ask if anyone is in there before ripping it open. Also, there were members who think it is OK to bring their pre-teen sons in there. I've seen the staff get after some of the same women over and over again. What is it with some people that think they don't have to follow the rules? That they are entitled to do whatever they want to do and push it as far as they can? I think after a certain amount of warnings, a member should be fined or have their membership revoked. OK! I've had my rant for the day.... emoticon

Oh, I bet they were embarrassed.

I need to color my hair, too.

We're still at an impasse in the bathroom. There are a couple spots on the ceiling that need attention. I removed the tape around the woodwork, but all that's at the ceiling level, I can't get to. It suddenly occurred to me that I should wash the walls before painting. What was I thinking! I wasn't. Taping also has to be done above the base tile near the floor. I'm not kneeling well these days, so it will be a slow process.

PT today is earlier (1 p.m.) and will be in the pool. Fun!

Colored my hair, Y workout, groceries, library, garden work about 30 minutes, and now I'm making DH some whole wheat dinner rolls for his evening snacking. He asked me last night if I would. Now....if I can just stay away from them. Think I'll freeze them up in 2's, and pull one serving out each morning to thaw in the fridge. He usually has 2 at a time for his snack - along with butter and fruit spread.

Lots of activity at the Y. Today in the women's dressing room a man entered through the front hall, and another man entered from the pool entrance. Luckily the housekeeper was there and ushered them out. They need to put up LARGE signs on the doors saying "Women's" I was in the shower while all this was going --just heard the housekeeper hollering. She said it was both men's first day as members.

Got the second coat of paint on the bathroom woodwork. Now I'm waiting for DH to paint the walls before putting back the cupboard and drawer contents. Since he's going out to run errands, I doubt that will happen before we go out for burgers with another couple. I need to wash the sheets and get the painter's tape off.

Gretchen - You're welcome! Yeah - our spinning instructor said it was like a chain that just specialized in Runzas. I love that I can wrap them up, freeze, and thaw one at a time for lunches for DH. I eat one every now and then (love them!), but usually I'm doing my Greek yogurt and blueberries while DH has his Runza with some kind of veggie or fruit.

Today was a home day. I got more kitchen stuff done - a batch of refrigerator bread and butter pickles from our garden cucumbers. DH loves them to snack on as do both sons and DH's friends at the "woodshop". Got my hair washed in prep to color tomorrow, the hummingbird feeders switched out and cleaned. They took this last batch out in 3 days -- and we have 3 feeders going at a time! They are sucking it down!

Gretchen, my husband's mother was from Nebraska, but I never remember her making this recipe. I think I will have to pass on it, Paula, as I do not care for sauerkraut nor the heavy amount of dough. I'm trying to cut down on bread and eat more vegetables.

DH finally painted the bathroom ceiling last evening, so I will be painting the woodwork today.
If I have the energy, I will tackle moving some of the leavings from the stump grinding of the ash tree at the corner of the house. They are smothering my lilies of the valley.

emoticon ladies!

Yesterday turned out to be a kitchen day. I went ahead and made two batches of Runzas (24) since I had the bread machine and all the ingredients out anyway. Then I topped it off by making some dinner rolls. DH loves a couple of those in his evening snacking time.

Gretchen - LOL - that's how I found out about Runzas. Several years back one of the spinning instructors at the Y would chat through the class. She had just been home to Nebraska, and was chatting about how she loves to get Runzas while she's there. The ingredients all sounded like it would be right down my alley, so I searched online for a recipe.

recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detai

asp?recipe=215984

The one that came up that I decided to use just happened to be on SP, although the person who submitted it got it from Cooking Light. I was looking at it just now and had forgotten I left a review on it. I throw together my own filling using cabbage, ground turkey (or veggie crumbles),onion, caraway seed, sauerkraut and some kind of cream soup. I always try to make enough to do 24 runzas. If there's some left over, I serve it over rice.

The dough has worked very well for me every time. I have an ancient bread machine that I pull out for the dough cycle. That's a big time saver! In my model, you add all the liquid to the pan first, then the dry ingredients on top with the yeast last. So after the dough cycle is complete I dump it out of the pan and start in with step #4. Only thing I do different is that instead of using 4 cups bread flour, I divide it up using half whole wheat and half bread flour.

Hope everyone's day went well. Can't say I accomplished much, but I had a very nice swim at the Y, and got the grocery shopping done. emoticon

YUM - love Runzas! That takes me back to my childhood in Nebraska where they had Runzas. We don't have them in PA or OH where I've lived after that. If you have a yummy recipe, I'd love to try making my own Runzas.

Today is quiet for me. I have the day off of work with no major goals (by design). I slept in a bit, got my bedding in the washer, got through some email, and am just going to read a few chapter for my book club books that need read by Thursday and next Monday.

Hope you all have a beautiful day!

Runzas? I'll have to check out a recipe for that. I've never heard of them.

I'm having a rather laid back day. Yesterday DH headed for Son #2's to help with a drainage ditch and was gone the majority of the day. No ceiling painting here. I spent a lot of the day outside doing one chore or another. The grinding of the arbor vitae stumps left large holes and piles of grindings, so I shoveled to level those. Got the pieces of the Rubbermaid patio storage box from the garage attic and put that together. Swept the patio and generally just cleaned up outside.

I picked up my sewing paraphernalia at the church after service, so I have to put that away.

It's supposed to start raining again today, so I need to get an okra replacement seedling in the ground. Don't know what happened to the original - broken off mid-stem. Might be our garden rabbit. I found a big bag of frozen okra from last year's garden, so need to get that used before we start in with this year's fresh. It's at least a couple weeks before that starts happening. Okra really prefers hot weather.

I'm also making another round of runzas. They are a great time-saver for a lunch that DH really likes. This time I'm stuffing the dough with a cabbage, onion, sauerkraut and veggie meat crumble mix...also cream of celery soup. I usually use ground turkey -- I'm testing the veggie crumbles out. Sure is easier than browning meat. I made the filling last night so it can chill and be easier to stuff the dough with. Dough is processing in bread machine now.

I woke up at 4. I just can't seem to stay asleep for longer than 5 hours, if that.
DH bought me a book that arrived yesterday, so it was dubbed a belated Mother's Day gift. The title is _The Women of the Bible Speak_ by Shannon Bream. I began reading about Deborah, so of course, I began by reading the corresponding story in Judges.

Put dirty dishes into the DW and made myself a fried egg on toast, then watched a bit of _The Zoo_ while going through emails and paying a couple bills. Hopefully, the bathroom ceiling will be painted so I can finish the woodwork and get that stuff back into the cupboard.

emoticon How did the band concert go? You must be proud of their accomplishments.
I know I was proud of Son #2 when he received his MBA last weekend.

emoticon Sorry to hear about the tree. We cut out a line of overgrown arbor vitae and the stumps were ground. Now there is lots of sunshine coming into that area. I may have a garden space yet!

I've been working on the bathroom woodwork, but the second paint coat has to wait until the ceiling gets painted. Then it will be time to paint the walls again.
I must clean out the fridge, as I clumsily spilled beet juice the other day. The freezer was organized a couple days ago. I've been to PT twice a week for a couple weeks. I can tell the difference. I certainly don't have to remain all day on the couch with my leg up anymore. If it would just warm up and stay warm, I could put away the winter clothing.

emoticon Hi ladies! The squash was good - I sprayed a skillet with non-stick and added a pat of butter, then sliced the squash with onion and covered and cooked. It has enough water that I didn't add any. Tasty!

Pat -- sorry to hear about the knee pain - that can really curtail your activity. Hope the PT helps.

I've done some tidying this morning and plan to do my usual town routine - Y, grocery, and library. I also had to clean and re-fill 2 sugar water feeders. The hummingbirds are at their super-feeding stage now. There's a period of a couple weeks where they suck the feeders dry in 3 or 4 days. Then they slow down, but the water still has to be changed after 5 days to a week because it gets cloudy...especially when the weather gets warmer.

Wow, Paula, those surely are early squash. Around here, gardens are rarely planted before Mother's Day. How do you cook those squash?

I lost the month of April because of knee pain. I knew I was going to the doctor at the end of the month, so I bit the bullet and waited. She gave me pain med and recommended physical therapy, which I have twice a week for eight weeks. On the off days, I have 5 exercises to do.

Today I'm painting a second coat on the upstairs bathroom woodwork.

emoticon Gretchen -- I've purged a lot of my cookbooks as well, but still have shelves of them.

Today has been pretty quiet - heavy rain has been predicted but so far it's just dark and misty outside. I finished a book this morning - I've started the Joe Pickett game warden book series by CJ Box - a recommendation from a sparkpeople member on another team. In a minute I'm going to start preparing lunch - it will be a treat to eat the first squash out of the garden. Some new seeds I planted this year -- called Sunburst squash. Looks like patty pan, but yellow with a little green ring.

emoticon Wow! I got behind on this thread! Went back a bit and read up. Today was town - swimming at the Y and shopping and library. I reserved a cookbook to look though. Sometimes I get good ideas just leafing through, and I don't add another book to my shelf that I end up not using. Things sure have changed with the ability to go to the internet when trying to find out how to cook something and get recipe ideas.

Good stuff Pat!

Today, I'm busy with work. Lots of meetings. My daughter's track meet was cancelled so that actually took some of the rush/running out of our day.

We are having Pepper Nachos for dinner tonight. Taco meet on pepper slices.

The chocolate zucchini cake with avocado was so moist. I must admit, I couldn't imagine pouring an entire bag of chocolate chips onto the top of the cake, so I just used a couple ounces. I have another cup of grated zucchini left over, so maybe I'll make fritters for tonight's dinner.

Yesterday, I decided to wash the throw rugs that sit at each outside door, as well as the bathroom rugs. Altogether I did six loads, plus cleaned the upstairs bathroom. That included the bathroom window, which was cleaned even down to the channels on the sides. The window is the tip out variety, and insects overwinter in them. In the past I have found nests of grasshopper larvae, wasps and this year it was stink bugs. Ugh. Oh, and I cleaned out two kitchen drawers.

I got notifications for the two books I requested at the library, so today may be a reading day. I've started a jigsaw puzzle a couple days ago and am over halfway finished with it.

Got up early and headed to the YMCA to get a jump on some steps for a step challenge that the fitness center at work is sponsoring. We have to have an average of 8,000 steps per day and I wasn't near that last week. The only way it's going to happen is by being intentional and making the time to do so.

After working out, I picked up my Sam's club order, came home and put it away, and then jumped into my work day. Pretty productive day, but I'm fading fast.

Have a great one!

We've invited the neighbors over for dessert on the patio and to enjoy our new deluxe fire pit. I need to make a chocolate zucchini avocado cake, a Spark recipe that looks good. Besides that, I will be doing the usual Monday laundry.

Hello all...

Today I got up early and ran my daughter to downtown Cleveland to get her 2nd covid vacciene. When I returned home, I watched the online church service. Since then I've reviewed the upcoming week, worked out potential conflicts with family to ensure we are all on the same page. My hubby is cleaning out the frig so that I can clearly see what we need from the store.
Meal plan and grocery list/order are next on my list to do.

Once that is complete, I think I'll spend some time reading. Read Comfort & Joy by Kristin Hannah earlier this weekend. Super quick read. Started it thinking that if I felt yucky from my covid shot, I could rest and read a light quick book. Started another Kristin Hannah book, The Things We Do For Love.

Hope you are all well! Take care...

The cleaning ladies called off because of sickness. It takes me about a day a room to clean it to my satisfaction. I dare not try to do all they do in a couple hours. It would be murder on my back. DH was nice enough to do the vacuuming.

I've decided to keep using up the things in the pantry and not replace them so readily. It will allow me more room to store some of the appliances that are presently stored in the mudroom on top of the chest of drawers.

My knee is giving me fits, and bending it is painful, very. Walks aren't working now, but I have been able to do some garden clean up. Lately, I've been watching a lot of Agatha Christie made-for-TV movies: Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot.

Meetings at work - nothing too exciting.

I did sign up for a step challenge at work where you have to average 8,000 steps per day. I'm typically at 3,500-5,000 so this is going to be a bit of a stretch for me. I took a few minutes and took an extra walk to the corner when a meeting ended early. Will need to do this a few more times to get some extra steps.

I was at church a few times this week. The six cross banners were originally just for last Easter, but were pinned in place at the top of the draperies at the back of the platform. They have had to be taken down twice for children's plays and DIL decided there had to be an easier way. I sewed a channel at the top to accommodate a stabilizing bar to keep them hanging straighter, then put four buttonholes below that into which we put S-hooks, which slipped nicely over the drapery rod.
After that, I measured out the new fabric for curtains for a TV studio and began sewing them. They won't be put up until the end of April, so I can take my time.
Today DH will be working at the rental house, so I can work on cleaning up my holiday decorations and begin getting the order restored in the sewing room.

Went to church this morning, came home and found my knee had swollen and didn't want to bend, so I spent the afternoon with my leg elevated on the couch and watched Poirot videos on BritTV. I fell asleep and woke up just 5 minutes before the evening service live stream, which was the children's Easter play. They did a wonderful job. I paid to see the online stream of "Jesus" from Branson, Missouri's Sight and Sound Theater. I always find their plays are imaginatively presented. It ended just a while ago, so I'm quickly doing a bit of Sparking before going to bed.

I too hope the placing of the palms was without drama! Oh my - what a shock that must have been.

Happy Easter everyone!

Today, we got up and got ready for Easter service, came home to get lunch together while my husband was still at the second service. (He runs the online communication so he had to be at both services.) We ate lunch, cleaned up, and now the house is QUIET.

My oldest daughter went with her boyfriend to his grandfathers house to eat/hang out for a bit. My youngest daughter is hanging in her room. My hubby went up to change clothes, but hasn't come back down. (I suspect he's taking a snooze!) I just put some laundry in and am enjoying the quiet. It's a really pretty day here.

Hope you are all having a blessed day celebrating our risen savior! Take care...

The prime rib was tender and delicious. I'd covered it with coarse salt and cracked pepper. DIL brought her scalloped white/sweet potatoes, cutting some sweets to resemble carrots to decorate the top, and angel food cake with berries for dessert. Son #1 brought asparagus, a casserole of cauliflower and broccoli, and a loaf of artisan bread. All I had to do was slice the beef and pour the water.

After they left, I loaded the dishwasher (sans rinsing), washed the couple of large things that would not fit therein, and ran the tablecloth and napkins through a quick wash. Then I read for a while before Good Friday Holy Communion at church.

This morning I read the Easter story from a couple of the Gospels, made DH some eggs and started on the emails. I made myself the last piece of thawed salmon for lunch and we will walk in an hour or so. Tonight it's back to church to set up palms for Easter morning service. I do hope we don't have another "drama in the palms" (see my blog). emoticon

The sun is out and the couple inches of snow is melting. The hyacinths look none the worse for the cold.

The table is set, the prime rib is in the oven to roast slowly, house is picked up, a load of whites is in the washer, emails are done for the time being, and I'm about to do an exercise video, then get ready for the kids and grandpuppies to come for an early Easter dinner. I only have to provide the setting and meat; they are doing all the other dishes. DH is on his way to get his second COVID shot, so I have the house to myself till early this afternoon (therefore, it will stay clean and neat!).

I was dizzy for the third day in a row, so I begged off fabric duty till after Easter. I did get a number of errands run however. The snow is falling like gangbusters now, so I'm glad I don't have to go out. We already had an inch overnight, but this is adding another couple inches.
Today I have a cake to make for Friday's Easter family dinner. (Son #2 and DIL have to move Easter play backdrops in the afternoon on Sunday, so that day is out. I imagine they will eat with her family on Saturday.) I should set the table as well. If we eat, we can always do so at the breakfast bar.
Papers near the computer are in need of filing. Have some typing to do as well.

I'm in total denial that tomorrow is 4/1! Not sure where the first quarter went. Lots of good stuff happening with you ladies!

Here's the link to the hand bell song that I mentioned a few weeks ago. It's 'Behold! The King Comes!' - https://vimeo.com/529865251 - I'm the topic row - 2nd from the left in pink.

It's a dreary day here today and they are actually calling for snow tomorrow. So weird since we ate on the deck last night and it was 70.

Hoping to stay focused at work today since it's so gross out. Also, going to churn through some laundry. My youngest daughter beat me to the washer, but she just has one load.

Take care...

How nice that Son took the initiative to have a nice conversation with you. One time my younger son and I hadn't spoken for a while, so he called and said he was doing a "life check." LOL

First thing I threw the sheets into the washer, then emptied the dishwasher. After the emails and SP, I'll tackle some files that are disorganized (I haven't jumped on the "unorganized" bandwagon yet.) At noon I'm meeting DIL to cut the fabric for new TV set curtains. Then I'll go to the grocery to buy items for Friday's family dinner. DIL and Son #2 are setting up scenery for the children's Easter play in the afternoon, so we have to find another day to celebrate. My books are ready at the library, too.

Can you believe it's April Fools Day tomorrow?!

I'm helping DH fold flyers, stuff envelopes etc for a friend he's helping run for City Council. Also did some outdoor work in the garden. Spent a long time talking to son who is home recovering from some kind of stomach bug. He was in the mood to talk, so I accommodated....lol.

Besides a couple drawers and finishing the pantry, I spent almost a whole day going through my recipe file, culling things I'll never make, don't want to buy the ingredients for, or found almost identical recipes. Then I recovered my file with new Contac paper.

Up early and took my daughter to the Wolstein Center in Cleveland to one of the mass vaccination sites this morning. Home and watched church. Now to figure out what other tasks I want to accomplish. My youngest is going to work on one of our local churches as part of a youth mission team. My oldest, who got her shot, will head to work for a 2 PM shift. This leaves a quiet afternoon. Hmm...

Hope you have a great day! It's really dreary here. Maybe a nap is on the books?!?!?

I helped DH pick up some of the arbor vitae branch that broke and we gathered and bagged leaves that blew over from the golf course the other day, as we were promised rain overnight. The rain indeed came and appears to be staying.

After church I want to get this paper pile handled.

Pat -- I'll be sure to check that out!

Gretchen -- Don't you love the way a pedicure feels? I've never gotten one professionally, but I love when I've made the effort to do it up right here at home. I'm too embarrassed to have someone else do my feet...LOL. One of my toenails on my right foot is all thick and weird back from my running days. It hit repeatedly against the sneaker top and always looked kind of bruised. I bought a new color at the grocery store today. Several times I've found what I thought was the perfect nude color, then at home it looks different than it did in the store. I might have hit on a good one today - Sally Hansen - "Frill Seeker"

I made it to the Y this morning and plan to make a stab at the garage tidy-up this afternoon. It will be a several day job.

Spent a very bothersome morning in the bathroom, in between I finished my latest Cadfael book. I've only had it two days.
It's going into the mid 60's today, so I want to walk outside. Just doing a load of whites now while I check emails.
Tonight we arrange palms for church. Go to YouTube "Live from Grace Cathedral" at 10a.m. or 7 p.m. tomorrow if you want to see our display. I don't know if they will still be hanging up, but I made the cross banners, too. They are coming down sometime before next week to put up the backdrop for the kids' Easter play. DIL made the Tomb scenery.

It's been awhile since I checked in - Y'all sound busy! I resisted cleaning the pantry because I knew it was going to be a huge job. It's taken me 3 days to go through everything. I wasn't working steadily on it, but spent a good while each day. I save too many jars, have too many vintage items (old canning jars and equipment etc.) and just plain hang on to too much. I'm donating so many water bottles - They've evolved so much through the years. I've settled on a double wall stainless style that I use everywhere. It won't leak if it tips over, keeps the water icy for days and is perfect for my needs. I have one by my bedside and one I carry around to the gym. That's all I need. DH carried off a lot of the jars to recycling, along with a lot of plastic. In my defense, we DO have quite a large pantry with shelves going way high. I'd forgotten I had a punch bowl and cups - they're now in a spot on the very top shelf, packaged, and labeled where I can see-if not reach- without a ladder. The punch bowl came from someone in the family, and I've not used it once in all my life. But if I give it away, sure enough there will come a time I need it...right? That's the thinking that probably gets me in decluttering trouble.

I've been using the Y pool a lot. I've started going in at noon and getting in a deep lane like I prefer. When I wait till later the deeper lanes are taken by the swim team and I'm forced near the shallow "walker" lanes where the guys like to talk the whole time. In an effort not to be rude I'm often engaged in conversation when I'd rather be devoting my time to maximum effort (and calorie burning...lol) Today a weight workout is planned. Next big project, my side of the garage. It will be a similar job to the pantry. I've been putting it off.

I've been attending to small areas, like the console and glove compartment of the car. I pitched so many coupons that were in the kitchen and collected the gift cards into one envelope. I finally got out the Easter decorations last week. DH and I have been walking the golf course almost every day. Wednesday I turned my mattress and did a thorough cleaning of all the bedding. The foam topper was put in the sun to sanitize it. I'm being affected by the sunny weather and have the itch to get rid of a lot, but DIL wants me to start the new curtains for the studio set at WBNX on Wednesday. Since it's the set for "Our Grace Family" and it's for God, it will come first.

My knee has been painful the last couple days. I rested it most of the day, but did a nice cleaning of the granite counter tops in the kitchen and took care of the dishes. Cleaned up around the shed, too. Mostly I've been reading my latest Cadfael borrow from the library. I wasn't 100 pages into it, and I'll bet I have the whole thing figured out. Now I'm just enjoying the read and watching the plot line unfold. We took a short walk around the golf course, too.

I made a sandwich spread from the rest of the pork, so we'll have a light dinner.

Got the weekly menu plan done and stopped at the store for just a few additional things we needed for the week.

I need to finish my book for book club tomorrow evening. I have about 75 pages left. It should go quickly.

Other than that, I'm just going to be working in my office and getting prepped/caught up for work this week.

Thanks Pat! Already thankful for her. She's picking stuff up so quick - there's just a lot to learn with the system and our different customer groups.

Today I got to sleep in a bit and then went to pick up my Sam's club order, picked my youngest daughter up at her sleepover, came home and unloaded. I then attended a meeting, ran to the grocery store over lunch for a few things I couldn't get from Sam's, and then finished my work day. Now, I'm just trying to clear some additional email and figure out my schedule/plan for next week.

Enjoy your weekends!

Gretchen, with you as a teacher, your new hire should be taken a load off your shoulders very soon, and you will be glad to have him/her.

Paula, I forgot yesterday was the day to plant peas and today was a wash out--literally. It rained all day.

I only tidied the house and spent the day finishing my last Mitford book. I did go over to Son #2's house so he could figure out what was going on that the firewall wasn't allowing me to get online. Pffft. I didn't start with emails until after 8.

Another morning of garden work. We got squash planted today - kind of like a patty pan, but green and yellow colored. I've also been moving plants out of the greenhouse. Tired. I rested a bit after lunch and now I'm trying to get geared up for at least a short dumbbell workout. Haven't done weights in days.

Wow! I'm tired just reading your posts. I had another busy day of meetings. I took tomorrow off, but am going to log in for the afternoon to try to get some tasks crossed off my list. Work has been so busy the past few weeks. We have a new team member so I've been more hands on with her to onboard her to our different customers and request types that we fulfill. So glad to have her, but it does take some time.

Son #1 came to help DH tear out more of the shower downstairs. Goodness! They're taking out everything all the way to the studs. There is still another wall to do. I took his dog Kora to the golf course and we had a good time. It was like the tortoise and the hare. Kora would run ahead, sniff the ground, then come back. All the while I was plodding along on the path. She even stopped once and rested in the grass. I kept going. I picked up some round things that had fallen from a tree. I can't remember the name, but they look promising for a craft.
After our St. Patrick's Day dinner, I went outside to cut back the old canes from the black-eyed susans. I leave them during the winter if the birds need the seeds. Apparently not, as most were in tact. I also cut a few dead twigs on the rhododendron. I think one of the three is entirely dead. The middle one has one branch that has died. I'll have to see if there is some good fertilizer to perk up the others. I did notice the jonquils I planted last year are coming up nicely.
I've still been reading my Mitford book. Close to the end.
