I like your attitude. I realize that I was focused too much on the scale. I wasn't even thinking about inches lost. I will continue to track my food and exercise. It should eventually make a difference, maybe not as fast as I like, but I am feeling more energized.

My new mantra today:

I have not lost weight for the past 3-4 days but after a wonderful walk today, I am ok with that. It will happen when it happens. I am doing everything I can:)

Being stuck although increasing your activity doesn't mean you are not losing. You could be building a bit of muscle, which weighs more than fat, so the scale stays the same because of the muscle weight even though you may be losing fat weight. Try measuring to see where you are losing inches.

Suggestion: Measure and weigh yourself now and record your results. Measure your neck, chest, waist, hips, both thighs, both leg calfs, both ankles, both upper arms, both lower arms, and both wrists. Don't be alarmed if the measurements aren't the same on your arms and legs, most people are a bit bigger on one side. At the end of August weigh yourself and measure everything again and record the results. Then compare. Even if the scale stays the same I know the measurements will have changed. emoticon

I've bee on many diets over the years. I truly think this program is the healthiest one of all. I like being able to track my nutrients to check that I'm getting the recommended daily requirements and that I'm not going over sodium levels (I'm very sensitive). However like many others I've been stick at the same weight for 4 weeks now despite increasing my activity level. I'm 73 and I think that is a big part of the problem (although I've never been this active). It's helpful to know I'm not the only one going through this.

so agree SHARON632 avoid using the word diet as often as I can
portion control works for me eliminating no foods just a taste can be satisfying
exercise is important too any movement can be exercise

Don't give up, just do the best you can and don't quit!

Have you thought of a mini-trampoline? Some have a handlebar for security and ease of use. They're low-impact and supposed to help your immune system and metabolism. They can be put in a closet or under some beds. Plus you can do it while watching TV.

You might check with your doctor just to be on the safe side.

I have "dieted" since I was 14. I've never won the fight, and I'm totally sick of drs telling me I need to lose weight. I keep trying and lost some weight when I started sp several yrs ago. I gained 5 lbs After xmas this yr and can't seem to lose it. So I'm a lifelong yoyo dieter. I'm 62 yrrs old now and have several health problems. I ride a recumbant bike for exercise, because I can't walk for long anymore, and because of my health problem I can't do yoga anymore which I loved, or do pool exercises.I'm in a fix, cause I have a dr appt the end of the mo!! And I don't want to be fussed at once again! Any advice would be appreciated.

I know what you mean about being addicted. I don't think I'm addicted, but I am afraid to get out of my routine and not go back to working out! So many things to consider. It drives me crazy when my skinny friends tell me that I should just eat less and that it's only a matter of numbers. Hah!

Thanks, ddebykins. I'm definitely going to keep that in mind. As far as exercise goes, since I think I'm ADD, I change it up quite a bit as I get easily bored! I'm doing EA More Active for the Wii right now which has a 6-week challenge that bumps up and changes thing from beginning to end. But the eating is something to consider. I have been trying to keep it as close to 1200 as possible, but maybe I should bump it up to the 1500 side of it sometimes!

Hi, have you thought of trying muscle confusion.

concept of "muscle confusion," which means varying the workout schedule and introducing new moves so the body never fully adapts. This is similar to the periodization techniques athletes use to get their bodies in top condition. It also has a basis in science; research suggests that workout programs that offer variation bring greater benefits than those that do not.

P90X uses this concept. I am in no shape to do P90X but I am going to try utilize this concept along with calorie shifting for my diet concept. I think P90X changes the workout routine every 3 to 4 weeks. Maybe it would be worth looking into. Hope this helps.

I took off 50 pounds about 3 years ago when I was diagnosed with seizure disorder and put on meds. Although the doctor said that one of the benefits was usually weight loss, I wasn't sure it was true in my case. I had to work extremely hard to get the scale to move at all! Unfortunately, I had a lot of side effects with and insisted on switching. Within 2 months I gained 25 pounds, got very annoyed, and stopped doing anything! Not good, I know, but now I remember how it felt just to exercise and feel good. Although it will be disappointing if there is not a weight loss to go with all this work, I am okay with being healthier, in whatever form that takes! At least I am saying at this minute, knowing that I will want to throw the scales out the window, at some point!

I have gained a couple of pounds back and I haven't been exercising as much as before because my grandson is visiting. I can already feel the difference! I feel "unfit"! emoticon

No matter what the scale says, I feel so much better when I work out regularly. Which makes it a shame that I will let the scale or uncontrolled eating sessions cause me to stop working out at all. I should say I USED to do that, I don't do that anymore. By pushing on even when things aren't going perfectly, I've been able to maintain a greater amount of well being. Be fit feels so good (and I'm not even there yet). emoticon

I went to the bottom of this forum and read all the posts here. Can I join in? I too have the thyroid issue.

I re-joined SP the 2nd of Dec. and have not lost a single pound since, BUT I have lost inches. Don't just go by the scale - measure yourself too. You might be losing inches but not pounds. I truly don't understand it, but I press on and do aerobics 5-6 times a week. That includes weights, intervals, jogging and walking. I know it can be discouraging but don't give up. Think of where you'll be in a year if you give up??!!!

I've put the scale away and don't even weigh anymore because it is too depressing. I want joy in my life, not unhappiness! emoticon I measure on the 1st of the month. The inches are coming off very, very, very slowly, but they are coming off! emoticon

Keep tracking, watch the calories, exercise ... I truly believe it will eventually make the difference. Never give up - emoticon

I can sure relate to that...in fact I got on the scale this am...and gained two pounds..I am on thyroid meds, walk everyday and count calories...I am pretty good about calorie counting..yes I am frustrated...we can hang in together!! I weigh everyday...but if I don't it will catch up with me...

emoticon I have been flip flopping between 161 and 162 for at least 2-3 weeks. I take thyroid meds., I walk 10,000 steps per day and at least 20-30 minutes of cardio! I know we aren't supposed to worry about the scale but I'm getting a little frustrated!

i have not gained a pound in over a year.

i gave up sugar and grain products and lost 44 pounds at age 61.

my sister lost 105 pounds at age 63 by walking 15000 steps a day and has not gained a pound back either in over a year

Using the nutrition tracker can help you analyze your intake and see where adjustments may be needed. Perhaps you are not eating the right balance of foods or the portions may be out of balance. My problem was and is portion control.

I can certainly relate to your post. I keep plugging away tho, count every calorie, walk daily and the scale just doesn't want to move. Very frustrating. I too am 61 w/ hypothyroidism. I've had this for at least 15 years. I don't know if to add or subtract calories at this point.

What made you connect the dots on metabolism and lower normal body temperature? I do everything right for weeks at a time and I do not lose a pound. Then I give up for a week and I gain 4 pounds. I'm so sick of this.

If you had not previously been exercising like you are now you could have temporary weight gain from increased muscle mass. Since you are not showing weight gain that could mean that you are actually losing but the increased muscle mass makes it appear that there is no change. Give it a little more time and make sure you are eat at least 1200 calories after deducting for the exercise. Are you drinking all your water? Are you getting 7 - 8 hours of sleep. These things, too, can affect your weight loss.

Those thyroid meds will get you. I'm 59 and find that I have to add 19-30 min of hard cardo a couple times a week. i get on my stationary bike and peddle as hard as I can as long as I can then slow down till I catch my breath and do it again. Some times I can only do this for 10 min, sometimes longer.
